FBI Special Agent Jack Matthews finds himself on yet another serial killer case, having barely
recovered from the last disastrous hunt. Still stiff from a gun shot wound in his leg, under
investigation for a botched job, and having lost his fiancée when she walked out on him, Jack is
beginning to wonder if it isn’t time to move on to something new. But, for Jack, these cases are
Marketing specialist Kathy Gilliam leads a fairly boring life. If she’s not working or caring for
her ailing father, then she is doing whatever it takes to avoid going anywhere near crowds of
people. Her few distractions include her friend Margo Longfellow, occasional hiking trips, and
her increasingly alarming dreams of women dying.
As her nightmares cause her to begin to doubt her sanity, the media releases news of the “Coastto-Coast Killer” and Kathy discovers her dreams may be related. In a moment of panic, Kathy
does something that places her on the FBI’s “persons of interest” list. Suddenly, her life is set
on a collision course with Jack who must decide if Kathy is the killer or destined to become a
EXCERPTS
The woman faltered at the sight of him, her eyes widening. She stopped, then turned to run
back the way she had come. He raced after her, following the white puffs of her breath. But
despite his effort, the distance between them increased.
The voice screamed at him. Faster!
He saw her turn her head to look back and then go down hard as her foot caught on
something. She was still struggling to extract her foot and ankle from a tree root when he caught
up. Raising her hands, she looked at him with tear-filled eyes. "Please. D-don't!"
He felt his face twist. How dare she? Snarling, he demanded, "Why did you do it?"
Not waiting for an answer, he raised his weapon and lunged, watching with satisfaction as her
perplexed, fearful gaze changed to reflect her pain. His pain. He heard her gasp, still pleading,
until she finally fell forward into a pool of her own dark blood.
The night deepened and gradually grew quieter until he could hear only the beating of his heart
and the noise of the wildlife around him. Breathing deeply, he closed his eyes reveling in the
sharp scents of pine and blood. He listened for a moment longer, but when no other sounds
Kathy Gilliam bolted up in bed with the echo of her own screams dying in her ears. Her chest
tightened and she tried to draw a breath.
Fear. Someone screaming. She was screaming. No. Someone else. Someone running ...
For a moment, panic set in.
Kathy took deep, shuddering breaths until the tightness in her chest began to relax. She looked
around, still disoriented. Then a different panic seized.
Turning quickly to the digital clock by her bedside, she noted that the ever failing Atlanta
power had managed to remain on during the night. It was five a.m. She hadn't overslept again.
Drawing another deep breath, she tried to shake off the vestiges of yet another nightmare, the
same one that had been haunting her on and off for years. Though she could recall little detail,
it was the eyes she always remembered. They were always different and yet the same in their
Deciding she would not be able to get back to sleep, she rose and went into the kitchen to
make coffee before heading to the bathroom for a long shower.
As she stepped out of the shower, Kathy felt the last images of her dream fading. Slipping on
the long terry cloth robe that swallowed her small, five-foot-two frame, she reached for a towel
to clean the condensation from the mirror and began applying her makeup. Though paler than
normal, her olive skin looked well enough to skip the base and she decided to apply only liner
and mascara to her dark brown eyes and a little blush. As the steam started to fog the mirror
once more, Kathy reached for the bathroom door when she caught the glimpse of a strange,
Her hand froze on the knob. As she watched, the face quickly became obscured with steam.
Shaking her head, she reached for the towel to clear the mirror and found only her own wideeyed image reflected back at her. Kathy flung the door open, shivering from the sudden draft,
and turned to finish her makeup. Obviously, her sleep-deprived mind was playing tricks on her.
Finished, she pulled her still wet, brown hair into a ponytail and headed to the bedroom to dress.
Wishing she could have just one night that was dream and worry free,
Sweat poured down his face, plastering his dark brown hair to his head before quickly cooling
in the chill evening air. FBI Special Agent Jack Matthews turned the corner heading for home,
thoughts of what could be his next case pounding in time to the rhythm of his feet. Five women
stabbed and left to die, all within a four or five year period, spanning four states. They had
stumbled across the homicides while working on another case, but were still trying to determine
if the deaths were connected. If they were, they would be adding another serial killer to their
His stride faltered as an old wound in his upper right thigh tightened, a departing gift from the
last killer he had dealt with. That monster had killed eight women before Jack and another agent
had cornered him. But they hadn't seen the gun, their eyes having been focused on the terrified
woman the killer held, a knife pressing against her neck.
Jack could still see the trickle of scarlet glistening in the fluorescent light where the killer's
knife had grazed her. It was an image forever frozen in his mind, the last thing he saw before a
wave of fire ripped through his leg. His partner took a round in the chest before Jack was able to
The street lamps illuminated the white clouds of his breath as Jack stepped it up, arms and
legs pumping faster, trying to forget her face. Her name had been Elizabeth Brue.
The rhythm beat itself into his brain as he gritted his teeth and ran faster. With the report of
his Glock-22 still echoing in the air, Jack had watched her body sliding toward the floor, her
throat slit. Ten seconds spread into a lifetime as he watched Elizabeth's eyes glaze over, her fear
and accusation forever frozen in Death's immortal hold.
He and his partner had received commendations for their bravery. But all he could remember
was Elizabeth's funeral and the wail of her two-month-old son cutting through the still morning
And now it looked as if he would once again be chasing a monster.
He hadn't meant to kill her. No. No. No. Tom stared down at the woman, first turning his
head one way and then another, fascinated by the way the moonlight glinted against the blood
pooling out around her. He was just angry, but Tom didn't understand why. He just really
wanted to get away, go back home. It had been so long since Tom had been home.
Stepping over the body, he walked forward, trying to decide where he had brought Tom this
time. They were in an alleyway. Across the street, he could see what looked like a hospital or
doctor's office of some kind. But what city? What state?
Tennessee, the man in his head told him.
Yes. Yes. Still Tennessee. Hmm. Why are we here?
To find the girl, remember?
Right. The girl. Woman actually. Tom turned around and looked at the woman on the
ground, the full moon shining clearly on her face. It's not her, he thought.
Tom winced at the pain in his head, wishing he would just go away. But he wouldn't. Even
before Tom had killed his mother all those years ago, the man had been in his head, slowly
taking more and more of his memory and control away. Hours and even days now passed that
He took another look at the mental image of the man in his head. Mr. Mustache, he called
him when Tom thought he wasn't listening. Tom had seen black and white pictures of men with
mustaches like his. The man looked to be Tom's age, but wore clothes he had never seen except
in movies. Why did he dress so weird?
Tom sighed, taking one last look at the dead woman before he started walking. In his mind,
he could still see the fear in her face. He smiled at the thought, looking around as he emerged
from the alleyway into the busy street. At least, they were in a city this time. Another thought
widened his smile. Maybe there was a Starbucks nearby!
He began to whistle as he crossed the road, remembering her screams
Shivering from the cold and feelings she could not identify, Kathy numbly followed the
small trail that ran through the dimly lit park. Oblivious to the growing darkness, she continued
walking. The same chant repeated over and over in her mind. It's not real. It's not real.
She collapsed near a park bench, holding her arms tightly to her chest and regretting that
she had not grabbed a jacket before she fled. Confusion reigned as her thoughts tumbled one
over another. This is ridiculous. Dreaming about women who were dead? That happened in
the movies, not in real life. When the initial shock had faded, reason set in. It was the picture
again. It had sparked her imagination and, abracadabra, instant recognition. She must have seen
a picture of Lisa Marks somewhere before. It was the only thing that made any sense.
Yes. That had to be right. She wanted to laugh. There was a logical explanation. Right?
But she was still afraid. Why was this happening to her in the first place? Am I losing it? Fear
overwhelmed Kathy, causing her shivers to violently increase. The thought of going crazy was
Time passed and the shadows deepened. By now she had calmed down enough to breathe
evenly, but still found herself shivering from the cold. Wearily, she began the trip back to the
hotel, somewhat surprised when she looked to see the hotel further in the distance than she
would have thought. Well, there's stupidity for you, she thought. Heading off into the night in a
strange park. It's official. I am losing it.
As she passed a light pole, the light began to flicker and then went out. Startled, she
continued on, telling herself to stay calm despite the fact that her heart was anything but. The
lights of the hotel blinked in the distance. Subconsciously, she picked up the pace. A prickle
at the back of her neck caused her to swivel her head, looking to see if she was being followed.
When she noticed no one, she continued on her way, but walking faster as the feeling grew.
Suddenly she was running, fleeing through the wooded park, branches tearing at her clothes.

What is Soul Awareness? Simply put, it is the process of becoming aware of and in
touch with our “true selves” – our inner battery that animates, inspires, directs and if
paid attention to – honored – will lead us to a much deeper understanding of who we
are, how we can heal, and what our life purpose is.
“Soul Awareness” takes us into a deep journey of self-awareness and self-healing.
The basic principle and tenant is the message that healing of the Soul is ultimately the
root source and the “top line” of overall healing.
Healing of the mind, body and Spirit begins in the Soul first and foremost.
Additionally, “Soul Awareness”, creates the understanding that in the process of healing
the Soul we are led to our deepest personal truths. Truths which can act as mentor and
guide to our life purpose. Soul Awareness educates us about Soul “reality” – what our

Beings, we set the stage for receiving information about our personal healing and selfawareness. This book bridges the spiritual gap between people who practice a specific
religion and for those who do not. Its practical applications are based in the reality of
this human experience, on this planet, and in this lifetime.
“Soul Awareness”, is not a “light/feel good” approach to the understanding of
the Soul. Rather, it is a deep, even sobering, wake up call to who we are and the
importance of becoming truly “aware”. It is only through this educational process of
awareness that we can begin to change and heal our lives. When you become Soul
Aware and you honor your Soul by acknowledging the reality of the Divine within – you heal.
As you heal you begin to learn the lessons that your Soul has to teach you. As you learn the
lessons you are then open to find your life path and your life purpose. Remember, that as you
become aware of and in touch with your true self, your Soul self, and as you travel your path
to full healing, expect that your life and even the lives of those around you will change, for the
better. These things can and do happen as the result of Soul Awareness and healing.
Carol grew up in a small town in Northern Minnesota. At a young age she realized that her
family home held spirits. Although a practical child by nature, because she held the gifts of
intuition, clairvoyance, psychic and empathic abilities she was open to that which could not be
seen or understood by many. After years of living with these spirits Carol chose to communicate
with them in an effort to create harmony in the household. Additionally, with these gifts, Carol’s
awareness, care and compassion for others was expressed at an early age. People were naturally
drawn to her and they consistently opened up their hearts and minds within minutes of meeting.
Her experiences with animals - companion or otherwise has been similar to her connection with
humans. This has remained true throughout her lifetime.
The experiences of those early years were an indication of what was to come in the future for
Carol and they were the first steps in preparation for her healing work.
As an adult, she took employment in a traditional field. After working a number of years for the
government, she became seriously physically ill with a diagnosis of systemic lupus. This bodily
wake up call led her to seek out alternative forms of healing, and so she began her journey;
her journey of self healing and awareness. She developed an understanding of Spirituality and
her connection to the Divine. She studied Qi Gong, Quantum Healing and hypnotherapy. She
learned in her journey that ultimately it is the Soul itself that plays an integral and undeniable
part in our human journey and it is the health of the Soul that directly affects our whole health as
Carol has been working as an alternative healer for 16 years and has worked with hundreds
of client’s and has accumulated as many session letters and testimonials which support and

Roger Sullivan was operating a pizza conveyor oven and loading orders into boxes for me and eight other delivery people. The Indianapolis Dome job lottery only permitted five runs per day per worker but somehow I always managed to get more because I never looked in the boxes. At least that is what Mr. Grantman told me and that I needed to keep quiet.
"Felix, this next one is yours. Take it straight there."
"I will Roger. I don't want to wet the bed."
"That's the fourth time today Felix. Just for that, this will be your last run for today and tomorrow you will only have five runs. Talk like that in my Pizzeria and you will earn less, got it?"
"Did I offend you? Sorry Roger."

I left with the box. Telling Roger I wanted off to go to a religious meeting tomorrow seemed undoable now. This delivery was on the West edge of the dome, clear across the city. There wasn't any time to delay. I caught a tube car to the depot nearest the address and didn't get strapped in fast enough before the acceleration hit. When the car arrived I had just enough time to scoop the pizza off of the wall and back into the box. On the debarkation deck I spent ten minutes smashing what used to be a pizza flat enough for the box to close. I didn't notice the PC officer who was standing behind me until I got up to leave. Just before everything went dark I heard "I'll take that."
Several hours later I could see light flaring into my right eye then my left. I jolted to a sitting position feeling electricity spark in my crotch.
"Okay. Responsive and flatulent. Now that you are back with us I will make the statement mandated by public health. No loitering, that includes sleeping, is permitted on the debarkation platform. You must leave. Do you understand?"
A PHS droid was hovering over me and the spark probe kept arcing ominously. "Yes."
I got up and started moving off of the platform. Remembering, I looked around for the pizza box. It was gone. Guess I was done at Sullivan's. When I got back to the tube cell that I called home there was a message from Grantman on the I understand you have had problems with the Sullivan job. Author Bernadette Marie & Matchmakers
Hi all!
Please help me welcome Author Bernadette Marie to my blog today!
Here's a little about her:
Please help me welcome Author Bernadette Marie to my blog today!
Here's a little about her:
Bernadette Marie has been an avid writer since the early age
of 13, when she’d fill notebook after notebook with stories that she’d share
with her friends. Her journey into novel writing started the summer
before eighth grade when her father gave her an old typewriter. At all
times of the day and night you would find her on the back porch penning her
first work, which she would continue to write for the next 22 years.
In 2007 – after marriage, filling her chronic
entrepreneurial needs, and having five children – Bernadette began to write
seriously with the goal of being published. That year she wrote 12
books. In 2009 she was contracted for her first trilogy and the published
author was born. In 2011 she (being the entrepreneur that she is) opened
her own publishing house, 5 Prince Publishing, and has released contemporary
titles and began the process of taking on other authors in other genres.
In 2012 Bernadette Marie found herself on the bestsellers
lists of iTunes and Amazon to name a few. Her office wall is lined with
colorful PostIt notes with the titles of books she will be releasing in the
very near future, with hope that they too will grace the bestsellers lists.
Bernadette spends most of her free time driving her kids to
their many events—usually hockey. She is also an accomplished martial
artist with a second degree black belt in Tang Soo Do. An avid reader,
she enjoys contemporary romances with humor and happily ever afters.
Here is my interview with Bernadette:
What is your name? Do you use a pen name
(if so, why?)?
My
birth name is Bernadette Marie, I’ve dropped my last name.
Tell me a bit about yourself:
I am
the happily married mother of 5 sons! I have been writing seriously since I was
thirteen. I am a proud hockey mom and a second degree black belt.
What type of genre do you write?
I
write contemporary romance, but in the future you’ll see other sub genres of
romance.
What genre to you personally read?
I
like my contemporary romance!
Tell me about your latest?
My
book Matchmakers rereleases on June 13th. This will be my ninth
title with my company 5 Prince Publishing. Matchmakers was my debut novel,
which was published by a now defunct publishing house. I have acquired back my
rights and I’m so excited to bring the series to a new audience. Matchmakers is the first book in the
Matchmaker series.
What sparked your passion for books and the
art of a good story?
The
mini-series! I fell in love with reading books and then watching the
mini-series! Yes, I’m an 80’s child. But I thought that if I wrote a book it
would then become a movie (and I wanted to be an actress, so if I wrote my own
movie, all the better!)
Is there a particular book that changed or
affected your life in a big way?
Aside
from the books you read that make you want to write there is one book,
specifically, that still makes me dig inside and really makes me go hmmmmm
about myself. The book is Tempted by Megan Hart. I have to say, never in my
life have I stayed up for six hours, all night, to read a book. And you
wouldn’t think that AH moment would come from an erotic book, but it did. And
it wasn’t the nature of the book it was the character digging deep into
themselves. It was amazing and it sticks with me.
Is there a message in your book that you
want readers to grasp?
There
is! Inside of each of us is a warrior. Warriors have scars that show that they
survived a very desperate battle. When we cover up our scars we are hiding our
true self. But if we let them be seen then the world knows we survived.
What challenges have you faced in your
writing career?
Rejection.
I think that is the hardest. You know as an author that this is your calling,
so learning someone’s “opinion” of you and your work hurts. You learn to accept
it and use it, but those first stings make some go home crying!
What has been your best moment as a writer?
I
have had so many, I don’t know which would be my best. You begin to think that
nothing will top this or that…and then something does. So my best “latest”
moment was when a fellow author, whom I’ve grown up with and known since we
were five, posted on my Facebook wall that I was listed as one of the top 100
Contemporary Romance in Kindle books and in books! I will admit it took me two
days to comprehend how huge that was! So there is a dream come true and next
week there will be something new that tops it!
Who is your author idol?
It
was Nora Roberts! She got me wanting to write. Since then I have certainly had
my list grow and grow and grow. But without her books in my life, and her
example to follow, I don’t know if I would be where I am if I wasn’t seeking to
bask in her starlight.
Do you see yourself in any of your
characters?
Oh I
think all my characters have a bit of me in them…or a bit of who I wish I was.
Do you feel like your dream has come true
or is there much more to do?
I am
SO living the dream. And again, just when I think there isn’t anything left to
do, there is another quest. Seeing your name in the #1 spot on Amazon is pretty
cool, but do you know how many lists there are? Oh, and I have yet to have my
name on a movie marquee.
What does your workspace look like?
Right
now it’s not too bad, but I have a lot of neatly stacked piles (since I do run
a publishing house.) And my wall is FULL of colourful Post It notes with the
titles of all the books my company has produced in the past few years.
Have you ever had a day when you just
wanted to quit?
Not
as a writer. As a publisher…yes.
What do you do when you’re not writing?
I
have 5 kids! I’m usually running around town, or training with my karate.
What are the most important attributes to
remaining sane as a writer?
To
remember that everything is subjective. People are going to hate you and your
stories and if you let that eat at you you’ll lose your mind. Also, you have to
learn to keep on top of things. This industry moves fast. But you also have to
get out of the chair and walk away. Down time is key!
Did you have a moment when you realized you
were meant to be a writer?
7th
grade when I took a writing test and scored so high that they wanted to see
another one. I don’t know the purpose, but I didn’t care. That was my calling.
Show me a picture and let me create!
What advice would you give to aspiring
authors?
Never,
ever, ever give up. There is room for your voice in this industry and if you
let someone tell you your work is no good then you will lose that voice. Keep
working on your craft everyday until you are where you want to be. Any door you
see closing is forcing another to open.
After this book, what is next?
I
have releases, one a month through November. The Matchmaker Series will release
June, July, and August. My Aspen Creek Series will get a new book, On Thin Ice,
in September, and then my Bestselling series, The Keller Family Series, will
have book six arrive in October, followed by another Aspen Creek book in
November. I’ll be very busy this year.

Matchmakers
Cellist Sophia Burkhalter thought ten years in Europe
performing with an exclusive ensemble would have made it clear that she wasn’t
a candidate for her grandmother’s matchmaking. After all, she’d walked away
from the man she loved, leaving him back home in Kansas City.
David Kendal had fallen in love with Sophia, a match
orchestrated by her grandmother and his aunt. However, the unexpected
appearance of the daughter he never knew he had—and Sophia’s sudden, subsequent
departure for Europe—thrust him into the role of single father.
Carissa Kendal has only ever wanted the best for her father.
It doesn’t take long for her to realize that the very woman who broke her
father’s heart might be the one to make them a real family.
Can Carissa and the women who originally played matchmaker
to the duo convince them that love is worth a second try? Or will careers and
past mistakes tear them apart forever before they have a chance to reconcile?
EXCERPT OF MATCHMAKERS:
Sophia filed off the airplane
along with the other groggy passengers. The red-eye flight to Kansas City had
knotted up her stomach. What in the hell was she doing back here?
Perfect persuasion and just the
right amount of guilt had gotten her on that plane. Perhaps the tightening of
her stomach wasn’t the flying—it could very well be that she’d returned to the
very place she’d run from ten years ago.
She’d run from a man and
shattered the hearts of people she loved. The guilt stung a little deeper. She
should have come home years earlier.
Sophia followed a small group of
women from the plane into the ladies’ room. Exhaustion weighed down her
shoulders. Within the hour, she’d be at her grandmother’s house, tucked into
her childhood bed, and asleep. In the meantime, she splashed cool water on her
face to keep herself alert.
She dried her face and hands and
adjusted the scarf at her neck to ensure it hid the secret she kept from the
world. She picked up the carry-on luggage at her feet and headed toward baggage
claim.
“Sophia.”
The husky voice was soft and
male and made her knees weak when she heard it. She knew that voice as well as
she knew her own. The knot in her stomach returned, but this time it was like a
fist in her gut.
She turned to see him standing
there in his pilot’s uniform with his suitcase at his side—David Kendal, the
very man she’d run from so many years ago.
He took his pilot’s hat off and
revealed the dark, wavy hair that she’d once run her fingers through. It was
now speckled with hints of sophisticated silver. His uniform was striking on
him—just as it had always been. Even in the early morning hour, she felt her
skin tingle when she looked at his broad shoulders and knew what it was like to
rest her head against his chest.
“David.” His name floated from
her lips in a sigh. Ten years had passed since she’d last laid eyes on him, and
now he was as large as life standing before her.
“I thought that was you on the
plane.” He was walking closer to her, and her trembling knees wouldn’t allow
her to run the other direction.
The scent of his cologne washed
over her. His dark eyes were smoky and wide as she watched him take in the
sight of her.
“You look wonderful.” He stepped
closer, and Sophia gripped her bag tighter and tried to swallow the ball of
fear that had lodged in her throat. He gripped his hat tighter. “I’ve been
following your career.”
“Really?” The muscles in her
shoulders tensed. “Why?”
“Why?” He chuckled and took one
more step closer, and her throat constricted. “Sophia, you’re…” He shrugged as
though brushing off a thought. “You’re very talented.”
Sophia shook her head, trying
desperately to remove all thoughts of him from before—of what she’d lost. She
sighed. “David, it was nice to see you. I really need to get my luggage.”
She turned from him, head up,
shoulders back, and strode toward the elevator, stepping in as the door closed.
She leaned her head against the back wall and closed her eyes.
How was it possible that after
ten years he could stir such feelings in her? Sophia took inventory of what she
was feeling. There was a surge of attraction between them. Then the anger she’d
felt for years accompanied the thought of him. She’d walked out on him. His
betrayal was much stronger than the attraction. It had given her purpose to
make something of herself. Her success as a concert cellist sprang as much from
her desire to succeed as it did from a need to escape her feelings for David.
Sophia opened her eyes when she
heard the elevator doors open. The small group of others who had been aboard
the plane with her stood watching the empty luggage carousel go around. Sophia
waited for her cello case to arrive in the oversized luggage. It killed her to
have to check the instrument, but there were no other choices. It was times
like this she wondered why she didn’t play the violin. She could carry that
onto the plane.
Relief flooded her as a man
brought her the case. She quickly opened it and examined the instrument to
assure herself it had arrived in one piece.
Her trip was to last two weeks.
She’d wanted to pack only one bag, but against her better judgment, she’d
packed two. When the two suitcases dropped to the carousel, she pulled them off
and stacked them. One hung from the other, and she slung her carry-on over her
shoulder. With a grunt, she hoisted her cello to her side. She started toward
the curb to collect a cab.
Footsteps clattered on the tile
floor behind her.
“Sophia.”
She wouldn’t let herself turn to
see him hurrying to her.
“Let me help you.”
“I travel like this all the
time. I do not need your assistance.” Her voice was cold.
“I wouldn’t be a gentleman if I
didn’t offer to help a lady in need.”
“A gentleman?” He’d already
taken her suitcases from her and wheeled them out to the sidewalk. “Mr. Kendal,
I assure you I do not need you.”
“No, you made that perfectly
clear when you disappeared and left your engagement ring in the sink.” He kept
walking, forcing her to follow.
“Where are you going?” She tried
to keep up with him, but his long stride kept him a hefty distance ahead of
her.
He pointed off into the parking
garage. “My car is parked just over here.”
“Your car?” She trotted to catch
up with him. “I’m taking a cab.”
“I don’t want you in a cab in
the middle of the night,” he said, unwavering from his path.
She grunted and quickened her
step again.
“I don’t care what you think—”
“I know.” He darted a stare in
her direction.

Laura DeLuca and Dark Musicals Trilogy
Hi all!
Please help me welcome Author Laura DeLuca to my blog today!
Please help me welcome Author Laura DeLuca to my blog today!
AUTHOR BIO:
Laura “Luna” DeLuca lives at the beautiful Jersey shore with her husband and four children. She loves writing in the young adult genre because it keeps her young at heart. In addition to writing fiction, Laura is also the editor of a popular review blog called New Age Mama. She is an active member of her local pagan community, and has been studying Wicca for close to eight years. Her current works include Destiny, Destiny Unveiled, Phantom, Morrigan, Player, and Demon.
Phantom, Dark Musicals Trilogy Book #1
Demon-Dark Musicals Trilogy Book #2
by Laura
DeLuca
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Blurb: Phantom, Dark Musicals Book #1:
The “Phantom” was a musical phenomenon that Rebecca had always found enchanting. She had no idea that her life was about to mirror the play that was her obsession. When her high school drama club chooses “Phantom” as their annual production, Rebecca finds herself in the middle of an unlikely love triangle and the target of a sadistic stalker who uses the lines from the play as their calling card.
Rebecca lands the lead role of Christine, the opera diva, and like her character, she is torn between her two co-stars—Tom the surfer and basketball star who plays the lovable hero, and Justyn, the strangely appealing Goth who is more than realistic in the role of the tortured artist.
Almost immediately after casting, strange things start to happen both on and off the stage. Curtains fall. Mirrors are shattered. People are hurt in true phantom style. They all seem like accidents until Rebecca receives notes and phone calls that hint at something more sinister. Is Justyn bringing to life the twisted character of the phantom? Or in real life are the roles of the hero and the villain reversed? Rebecca doesn’t know who to trust, but she knows she’s running out of time as she gets closer and closer to opening night. Only when the mask is stripped away, will the twenty first century phantom finally be revealed.
BLURB: Demon,
Book Two
When
Justyn and Rebecca set off for the New York School of Performing Arts, they
think their dreams are about to come true. To their dismay, they aren’t in high
school anymore, and the competition is steep. Rebecca must compete against
accomplished singers for a role in the production of Demon Barber, including a
stunning Gothic diva with her sights set on Justyn
It
doesn't help that things keep disappearing from their apartment or that
Rebecca's father refuses to accept that Justyn is an essential part of her
life. Yet, all this seems minimal in comparison to the serial rapist
terrorizing the campus.
Consumed
by fear and obsessed with revenge, Rebecca and Justyn start living the story of
Sweeney Todd—both on and off the stage.
EXCERPTS :
Demon
Rebecca
unwound the silver ribbon. When she lifted the lid, she found two matching
pendants, each laced to a long hemp chain. They were shaped sort of like
seashells, with an endless spiral pattern that looped out from the center as
the chambers grew larger. They were dark brown in color with a few hints of tan
along the edges. The stones had been polished and smoothed on both sides, but
when she lifted them, she could see that the two pieces fit together perfectly.
She swore the halves fought to snap together, like magnets in her hand. There
was an energy pulsing and vibrating within the stones that even a novice witch
like Rebecca could feel.
“They’re
beautiful,” Rebecca whispered as she ran her hand along the intricate grooves.
“It’s an
ammonite.” Justyn lifted one of the pendants, brushed her hair to the side, and
hooked the clasp around her neck. His breath tickled her skin as his hands
moved with graceful dexterity, giving her goose bumps despite the humid August
night. “They’re actually fossils that are millions of years old, named after
Ammon, an ancient Egyptian deity. When they’re divided in half, they’re perfect
mirrors of one another. Some cultures believe that if the two halves are given
to lovers, it will bind them together forever. When made into necklaces,
they’re often called soul mate pendants.”
“Wo-wow,”
Rebecca stuttered. As usual, the sentiment behind Justyn’s gift was even more
beautiful than the gift itself. It left her a little flustered. “That’s amazing.
How do you know all this stuff?”
“You don’t
spend eighteen years living with Darlene without learning a thing or two.”
Rebecca
laughed. Justyn’s mother Darlene was definitely something special. EMT, exotic
belly dancer, and Wiccan High Priestess were only a few of the titles she
claimed. Rebecca knew she was a fountain of earth-based knowledge after years
of studying the Craft. As Darlene’s new apprentice, Rebecca greedily dipped
into that knowledge herself as often as possible.
“It’s
beautiful,” Rebecca repeated, too overcome with emotion to think of anything
more eloquent to say. “You certainly know how to make things interesting.”
“Like I told
you on our first date, I try not to be boring.” He winked at her. “So … are you
going to put mine on for me?”
“Oh yeah …
sorry.”
Rebecca
giggled as she lifted the hemp chain. She wasn’t nearly as graceful as Justyn.
She almost dropped the necklace in the sand three times before she managed to
get the clasp locked. When she finally had it secured, he placed his hand over
her heart, where the ammonite lay. He did the same with her hands, lifting them
to his chest. His dark eyes had lost all glimmer of humor. He met her gaze with
a stare filled with genuine emotion. Beneath her fingers, she could feel the
gentle, steady rhythm of his heart beating in perfect tune with her own.
“Our love
will span both space and time. In this life and the next, you shall be mine.
All eternity I will be by your side. For a love so strong cannot be denied.
Spirit and flesh merged into one. So mote it be, for all days to come.”
When he was
done with the recitation, he kissed her. Not just a gentle brush, but a deep,
passionate embrace that left her throat tight and her heart pounding with a
familiar yearning.
“I’ve never
heard that poem before,” she said once she’d caught her breath. “Who are you
quoting?”
Even in the
moonlight, she could see him blush. “I guess I was quoting myself. It was
really more of an incantation than a poem though. These necklaces are meant to
be a symbol of our love, and it seemed a little spell work could only add to
the power of the stones. There is power in words, Becca. Just like there is
power in nature.”
“You mean,
you wrote that?”
He nodded,
but his eyes twinkled, and the playfulness was back in his voice. “Well,
actually, I just made it up as I went along.”
“Wow. Actor,
singer, and now an improv poet slash chant writer. Is there anything you can’t
do, Lord Justyn?”
He smiled and
tilted her chin so he could look into her eyes. “I can’t stop loving you.”
Excerpt: Phantom
The orchestra tuned for its virtuoso, and Justyn stood
ready. But no one else was ready for the magical performance he began. Beside
her, Carmen was rambling on about something mundane. Rebecca elbowed her to
silence so she could listen to the perfectly thrilling tenor. As she listened
to the song unfold, the world around her started to slip away. Gone was the
high school auditorium. Gone were the rowdy teenagers. The Gothic stranger on
the stage had become the embodiment of Erik, and Rebecca watched him in all his
dark glory, belting out his tormented love through the words of his song. And
she was as breathless with wonder as Christine herself must have been when the
masked stranger serenaded her in the candlelit labyrinth of the opera house. In
that moment, Justyn wasn’t just portraying the phantom. Justyn was the phantom.
“Let the music touch your soul.
Let the darkness make you whole.
Do not fear what is unknown.
Your true path has now been
shown.
Listen to the words I sing.
Embrace the peace that night will bring.”
As he continued to sing in his deep but somehow angelic
voice, Rebecca found that she couldn’t tear her eyes away from him. With every
line, her heart began to beat faster.
She truly felt the arms of night wrapping her in a warm embrace. She
could almost feel the hands of the phantom glide along her body as the words
poured forth. The music caressed her. It possessed her—mind, body and soul.
Each word left her longing, yearning for more.
She was gawking so obviously, it was hardly surprising when
Justyn felt her eyes on him and steadily met her gaze. She realized her mouth
was hanging open in stunned awe, and she quickly snapped it shut. His lips
moved into just a small hint of a smile. He never took his eyes off her while
he sang the final verse, making her cheeks flush to the point that she felt
almost feverish. But it wasn’t embarrassment but excitement, arousal even,
which was sending her mind spinning in so many directions.
When the song was over, and Rebecca had recovered just a
hint of her composure, she couldn’t help but burst into a healthy round of
applause. A few scattered people joined in, including Debbie and Carmen after
she nudged them in the ribs. But only Miss King seemed to truly appreciate the
brilliance of his talent as much as Rebecca did.
“That was amazing, Justyn!” the teacher gushed.
“Lord Justyn,” he
corrected as he stepped down from the stage.
A few others
complimented him as well, but he took in all in stride. In fact, his serious
expression never faltered as he stepped down from the stage. He seemed almost
bored, like it was all he could do to hold back a yawn, despite the smiles and
words of encouragement.
But not everyone in the crowd was pleased as Justyn glided
down the aisle, so ethereal in his dark garments that he still resonated the
spirit of the Opera Ghost. Miss King might have been excited about the newest
male addition to her cast after being limited for many years, but Tom and his
group of boisterous companions glared at him as he passed them by. Jay sneered and tossed a balled up piece of
paper in Justyn’s direction, but the Goth was quick, and caught it in his hand
without missing a beat.
“I think you dropped something,” he said.
His speaking voice was no less melodic than his singing
voice, but something about his tone made Rebecca shiver. He tossed the paper
back at Jay, who was nowhere near as coordinated as Justyn. He practically fell
off his seat in his efforts to catch it.
“Hey vampire,” Tom called when Justyn went to walk away.
“Are you sure you can handle the competition?”
Justyn smiled, a cool, sarcastic half-smile, and crossed his
arms over his chest. “Are you?”
Miss King didn’t notice the short confrontation, and Justyn
vanished from the auditorium as quickly and mysteriously as he had appeared.
Only Rebecca had noticed the very real tension between the two boys. She
wondered if it was a bad omen for them to start off the production with hard
feelings and envy. That could only lead to trouble. The kind of trouble that
could end with someone getting hurt. The
kind of trouble that Rebecca would do whatever it took to avoid.
for.
God and fate
have been big influences in her life. Both have taken her to
places she
never thought she'd be, both in the physical sense and in the
spiritual.
She wrote brief stories and snippets of life as it happened to her
in her youth,
and encouraged by her teachers, continued to write. Blessed with
a loving
supportive family growing up, she was able to explore her options
which at
times have been put into use in her stories. The Navy--and fate,
afforded her
the opportunity to meet her Army, "Annapolis-native" husband and
team up with
him to parent two beautiful daughters.
Years later,
her husband gave her the best birthday present ever--a laptop, a
membership to
Romance Writers of America and a goal to complete a
manuscript
for submission by her next birthday. She did it. A few years later
she was
blessed with one of those novels, Wanted: One Ghost, as her
debut novel.
Believe in
Fate
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Stuck in ghostly limbo for 238 years, James Addison can't move on
to an afterlife. After being falsely
accused of treason and executed, fate's cursed him to remain an earth-bound
specter until he meets a historian sent to research his past.
Distrustful
of fate, Dr. April Branford wants to be taken seriously, but her unique ability
to divine history by touching objects seriously compromises her credibility.
Her latest assignment? James Addison, a legendary
colonial ladies' man with a shadowy past.
Without much to go on, she doesn't hold out much hope to discover the
man behind the legend until the day she accidentally touches him and brings him
back to life.
With
the help of family and ghosts from James’s past, they unravel the truth. But
after falling in love and with time running out, it’s hard for April to believe
in fate and a future where forever is now.

EXCERPTS:
“Who are
you?”April asked.
“You already
know the answer, Dr. Branford. You saw me out at the mill the other day.”
Her eyes
widened. “You’re…James Addison.”
She knew. But
whether or not she accepted the knowledge was yet to be seen.
“Really, I
did want to tell you the truth about me, but I couldn’t. Not knowing how you
would react, I couldn’t take the chance of having you run away from me. I don’t
want you to fear me, or what I am. You’re the only person who has ever been
able to see me in this form. But more importantly, you’re the only person who’s
cared.”
She stopped
and turned. “I can see you. But you’re not real…I don’t know…”
“You make me
feel real again,” he said softly.
She muttered
profanities under her breath. “I don’t have time for ghosts. I’ve a case to
solve. Go back to wherever it is you came from.” April waved him off.
“I can’t.
This is where I am. Right here, right now. There is no place for me to go back
to.” James knew this couldn’t be easy for her to understand. “Perhaps I could
be of assistance to you, since you know who I am.”
“How do I
know you really are James Addison?”
“You don’t,”
he agreed. “But what would it take to prove to you I am?”
“Tell me
where he is buried,” she challenged.
James
shrugged. “Easy enough, but I would prefer to show you.”
