Author Ross S. Simon

Hi all!

Please help me welcome Author Ross S. Simon to my blog today!

Author Bio and Interview:

ROSS S. SIMON was born Sam Ridings in La Crosse, Wisconsin in 1979; and spent the bulk of his childhood in Winona, Minnesota, before moving at age nine to Santa Cruz, California, where he still lives today.  He graduated from Soquel High School in 1997, and from Cabrillo College in 2006, the latter with an Associated Arts degree in Basic Liberal Arts.  In addition to Arthur O' The Bower, Mr. Simon is the author of two previous horror works, The Snow, published by Eternal Press in 2012; and Red Dahlia, published by Damnation Books in 2013.  His hobbies include pinball and board gaming, collecting pop memorabilia, and reading very interesting novels of various genres.

Tell me a bit about yourself:
I’m kind of a shy, stay-at-home type, mostly, with tentative formal education, but I have the love of an extended family, and am more optimistic than most.

What genre to you personally read?
Most any genre; science-fiction, horror, classics, mystery maybe, but then, those are only the genres that I like.  Romance isn’t on my list.

What sparked your passion for books and the art of a good story?
No one’s passion for books is ever really sparked; I just learned to read at a very early age.  At a later age than that, I figured I could write novels just as well as, perhaps even better than, anyone I’d seen in the business.

Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp?
Not so much in “Arthur O’ The Bower” is there any real message, but I might like to say that the point I basically aimed to make in both of my previous horror novels, “The Snow” and “Red Dahlia,” is that true evil does whatever it pleases, against whomever—AND whatever—it pleases, whenever it pleases.  “Arthur” sort of carries on that purpose, but like I say, not so much.

What has been your best moment as a writer?
Getting published for the first time; what the heck else?

Do you see yourself in any of your characters?
I admit that the protagonist of my breakout horror work, “The Snow,” Donald Holly, bears a good bit of autobiographical composition.  He’s a lonesome Everyman who’s basically afraid as hell to commit to real friends, which makes his possession by Loki all the scarier.

What does your workspace look like?
Messy, as is to be expected.  There’s a bunch of scattered papers to the left-hand of my laptop, which I suppose I should get in order sometime.  Also there’s a bit of dust on the desk I use.

What do you do when you’re not writing?
Basically, I read, listen to music, play games, or watch DVDs, and that’s when I’m at home.

Did you have a moment when you realized you were meant to be a writer?
Not one specific moment, but it slowly came to me over an extended time period back in my adolescence that I might enjoy writing as a hobby, maybe even as a career.

After this book, what is next?

I’m planning to follow up with a rather grim work called “The Basilisk’s Mirror,” about a super-smart suicide machine.

THE SNOW:
After hints throughout history of an apparent monstrous spirit possessing ordinary men, one such man is clearly possessed by what he later realizes is the Nordic mischief god Loki, “befriending” him against his will to create death and destruction in small-town northern Minnesota in the dead of winter.

RED DAHLIA:
A British RN officer retires from the First World War to Raj India, meets and marries a beautiful Hindu priestess, and they have a darling baby daughter...who, horrifyingly, is found according to the true prophecy of a holy man to be the incarnation of Kali-Ma, the Blood Goddess, and aims to immolate the earth in an immense orgy of blood and fire.

Cover coming soon...

ARTHUR O' THE BOWER:
A wing of the British Secret Service dealing with paranormal occurrences solicits the aid of a reluctant Scottish laborer who, ironically, has the supernatural means to fight an arcane wind demon, sung centuries before in a grim children's rime, who is terrorizing Scotland and seeks to bring first to their graves the ones who are chosen by faith to destroy him.

OK, here are the two short stories I've self-published on Amazon Kindle Unlimited:
VEIN TRANSPLANT, about a radical new leprosy strain that destroys all bodily matter except the circulatory system, and the unfortunate love triangle that it gets caught up in with its scientist discoverer...and a jealous inferior worker.

BY A BLOODY HEAD, about three freeloading English ironworkers who bet one year in the Kentucky Derby, a bit too successfully, on a team of four jockeys who turn out to be something more than they seem...in particular according to the Book of Revelations.

SPECIAL NOTE: Hurry!  Get these while you still can...they'll only be available for about another month.

Alyce Simpson & Born to Sin

Hi all!

I would like to welcome Alyce Simpson to my blog today! Today is a big day for her. She is revealing the cover to her book and you all get to see it right here!

Synopsis:

HAMISH

I was born to an alcoholic mother and alcoholic, drug dealing father. Not a good start to life for a young boy. I was "Born to Sin".
I've lied, cheated, assaulted, been an adulterer and stolen. All before the age of thirteen. It's how one survives the 'hood'.
I have a reputation for being the 'bad boy', the fuck 'em and leave 'em type. I have never spent the night with a woman and I have never brought a woman home. We 'play' at her place and as soon as I'm done, I leave.
After fleeing my home at the age of thirteen and living on the streets - an option I found better than being with my parents, my life is turned around by an elderly lady.
I educate myself, become an award winning chef and return to the 'hood where I rent an apartment. I love and care about no-one and nothing except my Harley Motorcycle. Then, I meet Jonesy and he takes my life in a whole new direction. Along with Wade, a fellow chef and the only person I can trust, the pair teach me how to love. Not only myself, but others.

BLOSSOM

I'm a wealthy Restaurateur thanks to an inheritance I received when my father passed.
I live in a penthouse apartment in the 'rich' part of the city.
Being pampered and spoiled all my life has turned me into a woman who sees something she wants and, like a dog with a bone, I won't let go until it's mine. I'm a winner. I ALWAYS win.
I don't have relationships with men. One night stands suit me just fine. I can't trust it's me they want and not my money.
I meet Hamish by chance when I'm on the hunt for a new Head Chef. He treats me like I'm not worth a second thought. I've never been treated this way and I decide at that moment, I will make Hamish mine.

Hamish has no interest in the pampered Blossom but for some reason she gets under his skin.
Then, something happens that makes him realize, he has fallen in love. Will it be too late? Will tragedy strike before he can hold her in his arms and confess his true feelings?

Excerpt:
Chapter One
HAMISH
“Hamish, for the love of God, get your fingers out and fuck me,” Caroline cries as I bring her to the edge.
Performing moves that would have made an acrobat proud, I grab a condom from the nightstand and rip it open with my teeth. The whole time I’m finger fucking her. Enough to keep her wet but not enough to have her come.
I withdraw my fingers from her pussy, lick the sweet juices dripping from my fingers and sheath myself.
After flipping her onto her belly and pulling her up onto all fours, I slam into her cunt. She squeals as I penetrate her with an almighty thrust. She likes it rough which is good, I’ve never been gentle. Girls know what to expect from the bad boy chef when they join me in bed. Let’s get something else clear. I fuck. I don’t make love.
Her hands fist in the sheets as I push her toward that worshipped edge.
“Fuck I’m coming.” My dick is screaming for release. My balls are tucked up tight. I grip her hips and with two more almighty thrusts, we fall over the edge together. Hot cum fills my condom.
“Shit, that was good.” Caroline sighs as I pull out of her and roll over. “Can we go out? Will you stay the night?”
“Nope. Gotta work.” I slide off the bed and pad to the bathroom across the hall. It’s as bad as the rest of Caroline’s apartment. Broken and cracked tiles, years of filth discolor the grout, the bathtub so stained I wouldn’t even think to lower my ass onto the grime. Peeling paint like the other rooms, torn vinyl on the floors. Not unlike my place two blocks away.
Most of the apartment blocks in the ’hood are run down, squalid hovels. The apartments haven’t seen maintenance in years because, unless you live in the ’hood, you don’t come here. Crimes are committed every hour, screaming, gun shots, rats in the filth ridden streets. It’s all a common sight to us natives of the area. It’s why I want to get out of here. Why I’m desperate to live somewhere decent with decent people. I’ve tried to rent in an area closer to work. A nice ‘burb close to the city. The realtors take one look at my references, note where I’ve been living and tell me the place is taken. It doesn’t matter that I clean up nice before I go and see them. It doesn’t matter that I’ve managed to get myself an education and have been working as a chef at a prestigious city restaurant. Nope, once a ’hood boy, always a ’hood boy as far as they’re concerned.
