Author Constance Phillips!

Hi all!
Please help me welcome Author Constance Phillips to my blog today! She is a fellow Ohioan and I'm pleased to feature her on my blog!

Here is some information about the author:

Constance Phillips lives in Ohio with her husband, two ready-to-leave-the-nest children, and four canine kids. Her perfect fantasy vacation would involve hunting Dracula across Europe with her daughter, who also digs that kind of stuff. When she's not writing about fairies, shifters, vamps, and guardian angels, she's working side-by-side with her husband in their hardwood flooring business.
Constance is actively involved in her local Romance Writers of America chapter (MVRWA) and the Southeast Michigan chapter of the United States Pony Club. When not writing or enjoying the outdoors, she loves reality television or can be found at a Rick Springfield concert (just look for the pink Converse high tops).

Can the greatest escape artist ever known break the grim reaper’s chains to save the only woman he’s ever loved?

In order to save Bess from self-destruction, Harry Houdini puts his afterlife on the line by entering a wager with purgatory’s keeper. He gives Harry a younger face and body, and a new name: Erich Welch.

Bess clings to his promise to deliver a coded message from beyond the grave, determined to provide the bridge for him to cross, even if that means befriending her husband's sworn enemy.

Erich needs to help Bess over her loss and put her on the road to healing, but will any good come from resurrecting Harry?

Resurrecting Harry Excerpt

For Harry Houdini, failure wasn’t an option.
Being closed into the old steamer trunk didn’t faze him, not even when the familiar sound of a padlock clanking in place echoed in his ear. When water began to seep through the seams, most men would panic, but years of experience pushed down the instinct. He knew his faithful assistant and wife, Bess, had slipped into the spotlight to distract the crowd and raise the tension, just like they’d practiced for hours and performed dozens of times.
While the fans anticipated the worst, he took a slow and measured breath and prepared for several minutes without oxygen.
Harry focused on his center from behind veiled lids and used every last bit of strength to extend his legs. The side of the trunk he’d carefully loosened the night before popped off, and the water now rushed in. With cuffed hands, he felt along the lid, guiding himself out. His hooked pinky swiped the key from beneath his tongue, but the metallic taste remained.
Lifting his legs, he made short work of the shackles binding his ankles and then arched his back, reaching toward the surface. In seconds, the cuffs securing his wrists fell away too.
All that was left was to break the surface and claim his reward. The roar of the crowd and Bess’s loving arms were the only two things that thrilled him more than defying death. Her and his fans gave him the drive to succeed.
Light faded away, as if rain clouds covered the sun or as if he was sinking further away from his destination.
His world spun like a child’s top. A pulse thumped in his ear and molten-hot blood pumped through his veins. Pure adrenaline fueled the glimpses of his past, which flashed by like the slides his brother, Theo, showed after every vacation. But Harry wasn’t watching the events unfold; he relived the memories over and again.
The spinning stopped. He now hung upside down, wrapped tighter than a Christmas present. His Chinese Water Torture Chamber, a straight jacket and the stage of the Orpheum Theatre; Harry might as well be safe at home in bed. He’d free himself from the binds as soon as he pushed his shoulder out of joint.
With a pop, this faded to white too.
Always trapped. Never escaping. No reward.
The spinning continued, like a phonograph record.
Shivers raked his body. In the distance, he could hear a doctor offering comfort and explaining to a sobbing Bess that hope was lost.
Harry saw nothing, just shuddered and listened. Icy water enveloped him; his neck rested on the frosty cast-iron tub. No matter how many times he relived it, he still believed his infection would clear and the fever would break. He may have stood in the shadow cast by the angel of death, but he still denied the inevitable. A burst appendix destroy the great Harry Houdini, master escape artist and expert showman? Never. When the lights fell on his final performance, something grander than illness would extinguish his flame.
Swallowing hard, he fought the quiver in his lips and tried to call out for Bess. Her touch to his cheek would provide the needed strength. The only vision that ever played out completely: he whispered her name and watched his own chest rise and fall for the last time.
Spinning. Spinning.
The cold vanished, his pain dissipated, but the mental torture never ended. Over and over he experienced his greatest challenges, but not the successes. Never completing an escape and returning to Bess’s embrace kept him lonely and devastated. What had he done to deserve such torment, and for how long would this agony continue?
Harry always believed in ashes to ashes. When his heart stopped, his mind would too. Anything else seemed impossible, but now he knew different. This was Hell.
But what of the fire and brimstone ol’ man Thomas used to preach about on the corner?
As a child, Harry’s sainted mother would rush him past Seventh and Main where the elderly man testified to the world. She’d whisper passages from the Torah and remind him his main concern should be this life. Despite his mother’s dislike for the reverend, he taught Harry a valuable lesson that would stick with him his whole life: give people a show.
Would it disappoint the preacher to know that, despite what the scriptures said, Hell didn’t torture the body with never-ending fires, but focused on the mind? Harry knew this was worse.
His stomach heaved to and fro. Bile bubbled in his gut and pushed its way up, burning his throat, but the relief vomiting would bring never came.
Why won’t the spinning stop? Maybe because he allowed it to continue. Change comes from within. That’s how he lived his life: for every action, a reaction. Why should death be different?
No more complacency.
He tightened his muscles and stretched his body as taut as possible. “STOP!”
Spinning. Spinning. As if he was embedded on a reel-to-reel film and someone had pushed rewind, but he was through being held at someone else’s mercy. Again, he ordered an end to the torture.
The loud clank of rusty gears grinding together sounded, and he felt whatever force kept him tied to this existence snap. His body plummeted and his arms thrashed; pleas turned to screams. Maybe there was something worse than the status quo. Falling faster now, he tensed his muscles and braced for the agonizing pain of hitting the ground.
Soft and comforting instead, like slipping into a feather bed and wrapping up in a patchwork quilt, he felt ground beneath him. And serenity. An end to his anguish? He opened his eyes and wondered if he’d see anything but his past. White padding adorned the walls and the floor, like he’d seen in those mental hospitals he toured while concocting his straightjacket escape.
But Harry wasn’t crazy. He was dead.
The air shifted; the temperature rose. Sweat replaced the goose bumps that covered his arms. A body? Harry touched the flesh to make sure it was real. The image of a floating soul now shattered by this reality. Hot, humid air burned his lungs as he leaned against the wall and looked up into the ice-blue eyes of a stranger, who loomed a good foot taller than Harry and was wrapped in tight, black leather like the blacksmiths he’d known in his youth or the cowboys he’d first met out west. Long, black hair veiled the stranger’s face. He lit a cigarette and threw his head back, inhaling deeply and giving Harry another look at those bizarre eyes. A shiver rode his spine. “My God.”
A bubbling laugh erupted from the giant. “Not bloody likely.”

Author Charity Santiago

Hi all!

Please help me welcome Author Charity Santiago to my blog today! She is running a blog tour and I’ve had the opportunity to be a part of it.

About the Author:

In February 2011, Charity Santiago's 7-month-old son was admitted to the hospital with severe respiratory issues. While Charity stayed at his bedside, she kept them both entertained by downloading several books on her new Kindle and reading them out loud. It was during this time that Charity learned about Kindle's self-publishing program, and realized that she had an opportunity to share her writings with the world.

Charity is a native of southeastern Arizona, and a writer since childhood. She wrote her first manuscript, Guinea Pig Code, at age nine. When she’s not writing books, Charity spends her time reading on her Kindle, wrangling children, watching Sylvester Stallone movies and pursuing a degree in Education.

Return
Lady of Toryn trilogy
Book 1
Charity Santiago

Genre: YA fantasy

ASIN: B0052BDNWE

Number of pages: 263
Word Count:  74,459

Book Description:

For the last three years, eighteen-year-old Ashlyn Li has been running from her destiny. A free-spirited ninja, Ashlyn would rather loot an abandoned city or challenge a fiend to battle than assume leadership of Toryn, her father's kingdom. However, when a series of attacks reunites Ashlyn with the friends who helped her save the sun three years ago, she discovers that her kingdom is at war and her father has presumed her dead.

Suddenly Ashlyn is faced with not only fulfilling her birthright, but also making sense of her feelings towards two very different men- Drake Lockhart, the enigmatic vampire who captured her heart three years ago, and Vargo, the charismatic assassin who was once Ashlyn's sworn enemy.

Will Ashlyn ascend the pagoda and become Lady of Toryn?

Excerpt 1:
"I once knew a girl," he said, his voice a perfect monotone, "who was like a dying rainbow. Her colors were incomparable, her countenance a whirlwind of brilliance."
Ashlyn resisted the urge to pull away from his touch. If this was another story about his dear long lost Loritta or the perpetually bratty Trace, she really wasn't in the mood to hear it.
Three years ago, she would have immediately yanked away and jumped up, jabbering something about Drake's selfishness and his inability to let things go or think about anyone but himself.
Today, Ashlyn sighed inwardly and resigned herself to a drab sob-fest about one of two women she hated for the pure fact that they were both incredible and mature and…well, not her.
Drake went on, oblivious to Ashlyn's inner turmoil, "As much as she shone, however, she faded into nothingness, at times so quickly that I was unsure whether she had existed at all."
He paused, their breathing and the rain on the roof the only sounds in the room as he gently extracted a splinter from between her fingers. "Years passed, and she became a memory to me. It was a long while before I realized how difficult it must have been for her, attempting to find a balance- somewhere from oblivion to her own unmatched radiance."
His hand covered hers, emerald light gleaming from between their interlinked fingers as her flesh knitted beneath his touch.
"I never thought I would see her again," Drake continued. His lips were close to her ear, stirring the damp strands of her hair with his breath. "But she came to me one night, three years later, out of the rain, as much a walking contradiction as she'd ever been."
Ashlyn's throat tightened.
He was talking about her, sweet Drago, he was saying all that stuff about her. She'd spent a month with Drake before, in close proximity, and he'd never said this much during those entire four weeks, much less in a single conversation.
And what he was saying now…? If she hadn't already been pretty much collapsed into his arms, it would have happened, and probably with a bunch of drama and swoony fluttering, too.
"What seems impossible," Drake said, his fingers brushing across her palm with obvious reluctance as he let go of her hand, "becomes possible in the smallest, most trivial moments. The girl that I remember has become a woman I cannot forget. Her strength has united a kingdom once thought lost. Her passion has awakened the hearts of heroes unsure of their purpose."
"Her stupidity caused the war in the first place," Ashlyn said uncomfortably, folding her arms across her chest. Instead of utter elation at his words, she felt like a child receiving a precious gift that was completely undeserved, and as much as she wanted to let him console her, there was no way to deny the truth of the situation.
When she met Drake's gaze, his blood-red eyes were solemn, and he raised a hand to cup her face, brushing his thumb across her cheek to remove the last traces of her tears. "You can run from your destiny, Ashlyn, but it will find you regardless," he said.
"I was alone for three years," she told him. I am not leaning into his hand. I AM NOT leaning into his hand. "I'm not the same person anymore. Toryn isn't my destiny anymore. I'll just screw it up, like I have everything else."
"I was alone for almost twenty years," he replied. "You dragged me out of the coffin nonetheless."
"That's different." Don't do this to me, Drake. Don't make me fall for you all over again.
His eyebrows quirked, obviously in disagreement.
Ashlyn frowned, trying hard to focus. "I only asked you to start thinking of yourself as a man,                            Drake, instead of a monster. That's hardly the same thing."
"I'm asking you to think of yourself as a leader," he said. "You've spent so long running from responsibility that you think yourself incapable of fulfilling your birthright."
"We haven't seen each other in three years. You don't know what I'm capable of- I don't even know what I'm capable of."
He grabbed her hand, abruptly, and brought it up to his chest. Through the cloth of his shirt, his skin was warm to the touch, and Ashlyn let him press her hand against the solidness of his shoulder, confused as to what he was doing.
"This," he said, his voice low, "is where I was struck by Devlyn's sword."
After a moment, he slid her hand lower, until it was resting directly above his heart. Ashlyn paused, entranced by the lack of a pulse beneath her fingers, the scent of him filling her senses and enveloping her like the rain against the roof.
"This," Drake said. "This is where I would have been struck, if you had not deflected the blow."
She met his gaze, breathing so hard that she felt light-headed. His eyes bored into hers, piercing her straight to her soul.
"I know what you are capable of, Ashlyn," he said. "I know better than anyone."

Excerpt 2:

Clutching the reins in one hand, Ashlyn moved her other hand inside her cloak, drawing a small bo shuriken from the pouch on her belt. She preferred her sword or her larger hira shuriken, but both were strapped to her back, beneath her cloak, and there was no way to reach for them inconspicuously.
The thunder rumbled around her, and Ashlyn held her breath, waiting for the next flash of lightning. When it came, she saw with some alarm that her attackers were even closer than she expected- mere strides away.
Her heart pounding, Ashlyn flung the first shuriken at one of the three figures in front of her, and was reaching back into her pouch for another before the first reached its mark. As she spurred Suki, the first shuriken landed with a distinct thunk, and the man cried out. Suki leaped forward, colliding with a second attacker, and Ashlyn threw the second bo shuriken before pulling a knife from its sheath on her thigh. She crouched low over Suki’s neck and stabbed blindly in the darkness, aiming for whatever she could get, but the knife sliced only air.
One of her assailants caught hold of Ashlyn’s cloak, yanking backwards and nearly choking her. At that same moment, Suki whinnied in fear and reared up, and Ashlyn realized that there would be no outrunning this attack.
Kicking her feet out of the stirrups, she vaulted backwards, executing a flip before landing on the slippery grass. Ashlyn spun furiously, collecting her cloak in one hand to drag her attacker closer. She could barely make out his silhouette, black on black in the thick onslaught of rain. She dropped to one knee, quickly unlatching the throat clasp on her cloak to free herself, and stabbed the man in the leg. He went down.
With the cloak gone, Ashlyn yanked the hira shuriken off her back, barely getting a chance to wrap her fingers around the weapon before she was tackled from behind. She hit the ground hard, slipping and sliding on the wet grass. There was a sharp stab of pain in her right side, and she gasped, her cry cut short as her assailant hooked an arm around her throat.
Suddenly fire flared up around her, flames billowing and hissing in the rain, and Ashlyn panicked, realizing that her opponents were equipped with stanes.
Ignoring the agonizing pain in her side, she rolled over onto her back and struggled furiously to loosen her attacker’s grip around her neck, but he only clung more fiercely. Ashlyn’s eyes began to water. She shifted her grip on the shuriken and brought it down behind her, stabbing the man with the pronged spikes of the weapon as he lay between her and the ground.
He cried out and released her immediately. Ashlyn leaped to her feet, whirling and slicing down at his throat before ducking underneath a punch from another black-clad figure. She danced backwards and drew her sword, sheathing the shuriken on her back in the same smooth movement. There was a crackling behind her, the telltale sounds of a fire stane sputtering to life, and Ashlyn tensed, mentally cataloguing her collection of stanes and trying to figure out how best to retaliate. She turned, throwing up an arm as she prepared to cast a spell to defend herself.
What she saw stopped her cold.
Drake Lockhart stood before her, his long coat skimming the grass. His eyes flashed red in the semi-darkness, the reflection of the firelight dancing wildly in their crimson depths.

Author Kenya Carlton & her book BRAZIL!!

Hi all!

Please help me welcome Author Kenya Carlton to my blog today!

Author Bio
Kenya has a B.A. in Mass communication, Television and Radio. She has fifteen years in production of television and film and five in television engineering. In 2009 Kenya Produced Dawn a short film and Executive Produced Destination Everywhere the pilot for a travel series through her production company Black R.O.K Productions established in 2008.

Here's my author interview:

What is your name? Do you use a pen name (if so, why?)?

Kenya Carlton

What type of genre do you write?
I write romance: Paranormal, mystery, romantic suspense, and pure romance

What genre to you personally read?
Everything! The only thing I haven’t delved into yet is Steam Punk.  I’m waiting for the right recommendation for that genre. I’m open for suggestions.
.
Tell me about your latest?
Brazil is a Romantic Suspense involving agents from different branches of the government. Leo Santos is one hell of an intense F.B.I agent, and the beautiful heroine Charly Beaudliar is a spy for the United States Government
.
What sparked your passion for books and the art of a good story?
Growing up my Dad was never without a book and my mom had a million ghost stories to share. Funny thing, pop’s still has a book in hand and my mother has a whole new set of urban legends and ghost stories hmmmm...

Is there a particular book that changed or affected your life in a big way?
I can’t say there is one, but there are a few authors that really stand out for me as influential; starting with Judy Bloom, Terry McMillan, and Maya Angelou.

Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp?
My book is pure escapism. There is no overriding message of redemption. At the most, I would say learning to let things go is a lot healthier than grinding on it for nearly two decades.

What challenges have you faced in your writing career?
Writing and publishing is first and foremost a business. The creative aspect is secondary to the financial side of publishing.

Who is your author idol?
I don’t have just one author idol but any advice from Stephen King, Toni Morrison, and Beverly Jenkins is taken to heart.

Do you see yourself in any of your characters?
I think a little piece of me is in all of my characters.

Do you feel like your dream has come true or is there much more to do?
I will always feel like there is much more for me to do but I’m appreciative.

Have you ever had a day when you just wanted to quit?
Not quit but I do want to take breaks...Long long breaks.

What do you do when you’re not writing?
Usually production work. I’m about to gear up so I’m going to have to go on a writing hiatus soon.

What are the most important attributes to remaining sane as a writer?
To say there’s a sane writer is an oxy-moron. There is no such thing as a sane writer.

What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Patience’s

After this book, what is next?
I have a straight romance coming out about a former prima ballerina and an ex NFL star. Also, the follow up to Sweet as Sin, Games Devils Play, I’m really excited about both of these books.

Author Blakely Bennett

Hi all!
Please help me welcome Author Blakely Bennett to my blog today!

Here is my author interview:

What is your name? Do you use a pen name (if so, why?)?

Blakely Bennett and yes it is a pen name.  My publisher encouraged me to use one especially because I plan to write in other genres as well.

Tell me a bit about yourself:

I grew up in Southeast Florida and have been residing in the great Northwest for over seven years. I graduated from Nova Southeastern University with a degree in psychology, which accounts for my particular interest in crafting the personalities, struggles, and motivations of my characters. I am an avid reader of many genres of fiction, but especially erotica and romance. Writing has always been my bliss.

What type of genre do you write?

I am attracted to stories of self-struggle and ultimate recovery and my genre is erotic suspense.

What genre do you personally read?

I read all types of books but mostly romance and erotica.

Tell me about your latest?

I find it difficult to read when I am creating a story so I haven’t read anything recently.  I plan to read Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn when I get the time.  My mother highly recommended it.

What sparked your passion for books and the art of a good story?

I have always enjoyed reading and can get lost in a well told story.

Is there a particular book that changed or affected your life in a big way?

I would have to say Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse.  My 10th grade English teacher had us read it and I think it was the first time I read a story that really took me to another place.  I have read again several times since.

Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp?

Yes.  Don’t ever give yourself away for love or change yourself to suit another.  If someone truly loves you, then they love the real you.

What challenges have you faced in your writing career?

I spent a lot of time trying to find an agent to represent me without any success and put writing aside for a while.  Deciding to try again, at my husband’s urging, we thought going directly to a publisher might be a better choice, which ended up working out great for me.  I think timing had something to do with it as well.

What has been your best moment as a writer?

My first book signing was definitely a high point.  Getting signed by a publisher ranks pretty high as well.  I think the reason the book signing stands out for me is because it was a long-time dream and it could have been everything I dreamed of or a disappointment.  It was much better than I imagined and I can’t wait to do it again!

Who is your author idol?

I’m not sure I can say I have one because I appreciate attributes from different authors.  For instance, I think Anne Rice is brilliant with description and Stephen King is always unpredictable.  Nicci French crafts amazing suspense and Audrey Niffenegger wrote an incredibly intricate story in Time Traveler’s Wife that just blew me away.

Do you see yourself in any of your characters?

I don’t actually.  I think one of the most wonderful things about being a writer is that I get to experience different characters and their “life” experiences.  I’m guessing that it’s similar to being an actor.  I feel the character’s emotions and share those on the page.

Do you feel like your dream has come true or is there much more to do?

Parts of the dream, for sure, have come true, but there is so much more to do.  I’m still dreaming of the New York Time’s Best Sellers List.

What does your workspace look like?

I sit on the couch in our TV room and write with my laptop on my lap.  I don’t care for sitting at a desk.  It feels too much like work that way.

Have you ever had a day when you just wanted to quit?

Not really but I have second guessed some of the choices I made in the story and that’s probably worse.  I learned not to read a bad review when I’m not feeling well.

What do you do when you’re not writing?

Exercise, lie in the sun, spend time with family and friends, explore new places and try new restaurants.  I’m also an avid movie watcher and I typically consume books but I have a hard time reading when I’m working on a story.

What are the most important attributes to remaining sane as a writer?

Understand that not everyone, no matter how great a writer you are, will either like or get your story.  That a writer writes and it’s important to keep working at the craft.

Did you have a moment when you realized you were meant to be a writer?

Not really.  It is something I have enjoyed doing for most of my life.  I realized I could really do it during the process of being published.

What advice would you give to aspiring authors?

Connect with a story you can feel and then write the tale in such a way that other people can feel it via your words.  I have also found that setting a writing goal is very helpful.  When I wrote My Body-His, the first novel in the My Body Trilogy, I committed to writing at least twenty-five pages a week, so five pages a day Monday-Friday.  Taking time away when needed helps you be fresh to continue.

After this book, what is next?

I have just completed the first draft of My Body-Mine, the last book in the erotic suspense trilogy.  I have plans to write an erotic romance next.

Author Catherine Fowler!

Hi all!
Please help me welcome Author Catherine Fowler to my blog today!

Here is my interview with her:

What is your name? Do you use a pen name (if so, why?)?

I use my mother's maiden name Sabatina as my pen name. She died of breast cancer aged 52. Sabatina is an Italian name and has a lovely sound to it. I decided to use her name out of respect for her and because she loved to read.

Tell me a bit about yourself:

I teach exercise to music for a living and tutor. I started writing about five years ago. I discovered I was dyslexic in adulthood which was a great weight off my shoulders as I soon discovered that I was dyslexic and not stupid! it gave me a great confidence boost. I enjoyed writing stories when I was little but my English gramma is weak, however improving!

What type of genre do you write?

Urban fantasy/chick lit. I'm a great fan of all things that go bump in the night! That particular genre has always fuelled my imagination.

What genre to you personally read?

I'm quite eclectic when it comes to reading. I still read Agatha Christie and I enjoy Dan Brown novels. I enjoy Marian Keys novels and Helen Fielding.
I enjoy stories about vampires and witches, spirits and ghosts. In addition stories set during WW2

Tell me about your latest?

Love" is an extremely powerful emotion and can therefore cause all sorts of problems even for the most skilled of witches. Love can tie a person into knots, throw you off guard, put you off your dinner and turn you into nothing but a giant mush ball. No, no Adrianna Jasmine prefers to keep her head firmly on her shoulders and out of the pink, fluffy love clouds thank you very much.”

Adrianna Jasmine Mariposa Poppleapple Forthright-Punch is a thoroughly modern witch living the single life in London; a master baker she dreams of owning her own cake shop one day and lives happily with her cat Jupiter 10; unsuspected by those living around her that she possesses magical powers. Despite being a bit of a strudel she is un-vain and totally unaware of the effect that she has on men and is disinterested in love. All she cares about is cooking and bringing happiness into the lives of others, which is her passion and expertise.

The book propels the reader on with new excitement and surprises in each chapter and with a deliciously funny narrative and the all-seeing-eye captures every detail of the lives of a group of extraordinary women.

The tone of this book can go from a light a frothy photo shoot to a dark and sinister kidnap in the pace of a few pages. Adrianna Jasmine is a likable character part Nigella part Sarah Jessica Parker and her supporting cast of witches, including her unstoppable and irrepressible mother, make this a veritable pantomime of a book.  And Taylor of course is the ultimate leading man.

What sparked your passion for books and the art of a good story?

I was brought up on Agatha Christie who is the queen of unpredictability and therefore decided that my book should be filled with twists and turns. Characters are very important to me, as
there are so many stories around where you forget the names of the characters. My characters have become something of an enigma to my fans and they almost wish that they exist!

Is there a particular book that changed or affected your life in a big way?

No, but authors have effected the way I write. Great character authors such as Dickens, Christie, Shakespeare, even Rowelling as they are great character writers. When you have strong characters the story can go anywhere.

Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp?

Yes, it's all about women being strong and taking back the control. That love is complicated, and be careful what you do unto others!

What challenges have you faced in your writing career?

Dyslexia, not knowing how to produce my book so having to learn as I went on. Trying to get people to stand up and listen to me. I've learnt that the writing world is hard! Having to switch from writing head to exercise to music head, I can't stay in my zone as I have to shut the lap top and teach legs butts and thighs!

What has been your best moment as a writer?

My book signing in my local Waterstones and my first book launch at my leisure centre where I teach. The amount of people who came to support me was overwhelming. And we all had tea and cake!

Who is your author idol?
Agatha Christie

Do you see yourself in any of your characters?

My mane character is someone who I would love to be, but sadly I am not like her

Do you feel like your dream has come true or is there much more to do?

No I've got a long way to go, it's frustrating at times. People keep telling me that I've achieved so much but I feel I'm not where I want to be.

What does your workspace look like?

Ha! The couch!

Have you ever had a day when you just wanted to quit?

Oh yes, I often think what are you doing. The industry is far too complicated and tough. It's tired me out, trying, trying, trying. Then I get wind In my sails all over again and I have the energy to start all over.

What do you do when you’re not writing?

 Teaching my classes,

What are the most important attributes to remaining sane as a writer?

Gosh I'm not sure. The industry can be very crushing. Listening to positive reviews and try to always believe in your book.

Did you have a moment when you realized you were meant to be a writer?

When I was a little girl. I've kinda done a full circle there. I love to be artistic and creative, writing helps me to express. Also when people first read the book and loved it, I thought hmmm maybe I should keep plugging away.

What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Got a story then write! It's much easier these days with the self publishing industry to get your book out there. Don't expect to make money just yet though, be happy that people enjoy your work. I dislike the snobbery between published authors and self published authors. What are we meant to do when no publishing house will even give you two minutes, give up? I say no do it yourself! It's also extremely hard work and requires a lot of skill, it took me a year to produce my first book!

After this book, what is next?
To have the sequel Sweet Jasmine, Cakes and Magic out by May 2013.
I hope to write a third in the Sweet Jasmine series and to write books on the individual characters. To teach English as a foreign language and to tutor aspiring fitness professionals.
