What is your name? Joya Ryan Tell me a bit about
yourself: I have an amazing husband two wonderful children and love all things
romantic with happy endings. What type of genre do
you write? I write New-Adult, Erotica, and Contemporary Romance. Be warned
though...all are pretty spicy ;-) What genre to you
personally read? From Historical to contemporary, as long as it's romance, I
love it. Tell me about your
latest? Break Me Slowly is a New-Adult romance and is about a college grad
overcoming her abusive past while falling in love with a powerful man with a
dark past of his own.
What sparked your
passion for books and the art of a good story? I've always loved writing since
I was a kid. It was a way to escape. What challenges have
you faced in your writing career? Taking on writing as a profession toys with
your emotions. You can go from great moments to terrible ones and learning how
to keep yourself on an even keel has been tough to grasp. What has been your
best moment as a writer? When I met my son's teacher and he introduced me
saying, "This is my author Mom." Do you see yourself in
any of your characters? Yes. Some more than others. It's typically a certain
piece of my personality that comes out depending on the character's weakness
and strength. Do you feel like your
dream has come true or is there much more to do? Both. I'm so grateful
that I get to do what I truly love and have a support systems that allows
me to keep going. What does your
workspace look like? Wherever by butt hits. Currently I'm sitting in sweats
with my laptop on the couch...classy right? :-) Have you ever had a
day when you just wanted to quit? Yes. And honestly, I almost did. Sometimes in
this business, you get a lot thrown at you and everyone has a breaking point. I
reached mine. But when something is a part of you, you have to
force yourself to keep going. For me, that's what writing is. I can't
NOT do it. What do you do when
you’re not writing? Play with the kiddos mostly. Between scouts, soccer,
basketball and swimming, I'm kept pretty busy. I also love strategic board
games. What are the most
important attributes to remaining sane as a writer? Oh boy. You're asking the
wrong person. I traded my sanity in a long time ago. :-) What advice would you
give to aspiring authors? Stick with it. No matter what. And I mean, WHAT. Just
keep going. You'll make it. After this book, what
is next? Welp, I have three erotica novellas releasing back to back,
then my contemporary romance, The Chasing Love Series, launches in June. I'm
