Here's my author interview:

What is your name? Do you use a pen name (if so, why?)?

Kenya Carlton

What type of genre do you write?
I write romance: Paranormal, mystery, romantic suspense, and pure romance

What genre to you personally read?
Everything! The only thing I haven’t delved into yet is Steam Punk.  I’m waiting for the right recommendation for that genre. I’m open for suggestions.
.
Tell me about your latest?
Brazil is a Romantic Suspense involving agents from different branches of the government. Leo Santos is one hell of an intense F.B.I agent, and the beautiful heroine Charly Beaudliar is a spy for the United States Government
.
What sparked your passion for books and the art of a good story?
Growing up my Dad was never without a book and my mom had a million ghost stories to share. Funny thing, pop’s still has a book in hand and my mother has a whole new set of urban legends and ghost stories hmmmm...

Is there a particular book that changed or affected your life in a big way?
I can’t say there is one, but there are a few authors that really stand out for me as influential; starting with Judy Bloom, Terry McMillan, and Maya Angelou.

Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp?
My book is pure escapism. There is no overriding message of redemption. At the most, I would say learning to let things go is a lot healthier than grinding on it for nearly two decades.

What challenges have you faced in your writing career?
Writing and publishing is first and foremost a business. The creative aspect is secondary to the financial side of publishing.

Who is your author idol?
I don’t have just one author idol but any advice from Stephen King, Toni Morrison, and Beverly Jenkins is taken to heart.

Do you see yourself in any of your characters?
I think a little piece of me is in all of my characters.

Do you feel like your dream has come true or is there much more to do?
I will always feel like there is much more for me to do but I’m appreciative.

Have you ever had a day when you just wanted to quit?
Not quit but I do want to take breaks...Long long breaks.

What do you do when you’re not writing?
Usually production work. I’m about to gear up so I’m going to have to go on a writing hiatus soon.

What are the most important attributes to remaining sane as a writer?
To say there’s a sane writer is an oxy-moron. There is no such thing as a sane writer.

What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Patience’s

After this book, what is next?
I have a straight romance coming out about a former prima ballerina and an ex NFL star. Also, the follow up to Sweet as Sin, Games Devils Play, I’m really excited about both of these books.

Description:

Charly Beaudliar has fooled many powerful men.  Completely discounted due to her good looks, she makes for the perfect spy.

Unfortunately, FBI agent Leo Santos finds out the hard way that he can’t make the beauty do anything she doesn’t want to.

In desperate need to capture and destroy a man who obliterated his childhood, Agent Santos tries to enlist the femme fatale for help on a life-threatening case, a request Charly reluctantly fills.

Together, heady emotions collide on a mission that not only jeopardizes their hearts but also their lives, but Leo is determined to put his past to rest, even if it’s with the help of a woman he doesn’t trust and is not entirely sure he even likes.

AWOL from their bureaus, Charly and Leo are forced to rely on each other in order to right the wrongs from his childhood and catch one of the world’s biggest drug czars.  With no room for mistakes, these two agents must squelch the soul-stirring chemistry between them in order to come out of the mission alive.
