Book Description:

Welcome to Adelheid, CT. Freak central. Unofficial capital of legal preternatural creatures in the Northeast. Focal point for anti-preternatural sentiments in the United States.

Who would ever guess that this otherwise sleepy New England town houses many of the most powerful beings known to exist?

* * *

In "Cameron's Law," meet Sadie Stanton, vampire poster girl for preternatural rights. She's just trying to start a business to help the community, but when vampires and werewolves start attacking each other, she gets thrust in the middle.

Excerpt:
That's the part about being a vampire that I've always hated.
The perks are great, but lunch can kill you... and I'm not talking 'I can't believe I ate the whole thing' kind of kill you, either. I mean, pull a wooden stake out of their back pocket and murder you. Honestly, who would like that?
Let's be clear about my present situation. I wasn't trying to eat anybody when the blonde psycho decided to do precisely that: stab me with a stake. Here I am, just trying to make an honest living when some whack job with a slayer complex comes darting out of the shadows and decides that I'm the one responsible for all the crimes my kind and those like me or pretending to be like me have committed over the past several centuries in reality and in fiction. I'm being assaulted over Dracula. Thanks, Stoker.
Now, I am very grateful to the public school system. In their lovely statement of patriotism, the Pledge of Allegiance, their having all children put their hands over the far left sides of their chests under the mistaken impression that's where the heart is (rather than more centralized) has repeatedly saved my undead ass. It still sucks (no pun intended) to get stabbed, but at least I'm not dead, or any deader than I was before.
This turn of events was bad enough, but I could handle it. What I couldn't handle quite so easily were the hysterics.
No, I'm not talking about my hysterics. I wasn't hysterical. In fact, given the circumstances, I was really quite calm. I'm talking about my clients. While I'm sure that having their Preternatural Expert Advisor type person skewered wasn't in their original plan, I was walking and talking, so was it really necessary to carry on like that?
"Mrs. White, please, really, I'm okay. Calm down," I said through grit teeth. My hand pressed against the wound, holding back the oozing tide for a few moments.
If it hadn't been for the screamers to my left, I probably would have gone after the bitch and said shoulder be damned, but my tearing off probably would only make the situation worse and besides, I was a little impaired. I wouldn't forget the face. I was sure I'd find her again later and we'd have a real fight, a fair fight.
"But then... she just... out of nowhere... blood..." Mrs. Regina White sputtered, as if she'd been the one stabbed, before she promptly passed out.
Ernest White, who I assumed was her husband although no one had actually clarified it to me, knelt down beside her in a panic and then glared at me. Like this was my fault! What am I supposed to say? 'Gee, sorry for getting stabbed. I'll try not to leave a mess on your grave yard...'
I hate mortals sometimes.
Running after the stake-wielding psychopath was looking better all the time.
Fifteen minutes later, I was sitting on the hood of my car. I had little patience for theatrics, but didn't quite feel free to leave, so this seemed like a good compromise. My hyper-physical body had healed the wound, although the blood drying on my skin and shirt was kind of gross. Still, I could handle it.
My bigger concern at the moment was Ernest, who was walking towards me. Don't get me wrong, I was positive I could take him in any sort of fight, fair or otherwise, but it was more the stress factor I was worried about. On a scale of one to ten, my night was already crawling into the negatives.
"Miss Stanton," he began, dry-washing his hands.
I wanted to correct him and tell him to call me something else, but the truth was that I didn't really have a title. For some reason, 'Miss' Stanton just sounded wrong to me.
He continued, "I'm terribly sorry about Regina. She just doesn't handle surprises very well."
Proudly, I was able to stave off the smirk and comment along the lines of, 'yeah, this was such a trauma... for her.' I gave myself a gold star for that little piece of self control.
"I'm sure," I replied in my best impression of sympathy.
Really, I'm not normally so crabby, but it was a pretty bad night for me. It wasn't even like this was a high paying job.
Perhaps this would be a good time to clarify a few things.
My name is Sadie Stanton. I'm the owner of the Stanton Agency. We serve the community in all matters preternatural and we specialize in helping the preternatural community, and we had been doing it for... if we were lucky, we'd be looking at a whole year. I started the business not long after the institution of Cameron's Law, which made all supernatural beings legal citizens. I felt that we needed a place where people could come for paranormal services, and where the supernatural could come for help.

In "When Forever Died," Dakota is a rare shifter and hunter who has lived a long, hard life. But the past never sleeps and two simultaneous cases are going to test the personal defenses she's built over the centuries.

Excerpt:

The problem with most people is that they're liars.
We all harbor a beast inside and we all know it. Most people just won't admit it. That's why I like hunting animals. There's no duplicity. They are what they are.
The leafy trees of a New England forest in spring rushed past my feline ears as I raced after a NHF preternatural. NHF stands for Non-Human Form, which means I was chasing down an animal that had more speed, stamina and strength than any 'regular' animal that a person would generally encounter in their day to day lives. In this instance, it was something like a wolf and roughly the size of a small pony. It had been terrorizing several suburban communities just outside of Adelheid with its very presence and no one else wanted to tackle it, so they called me.
My name is Dakota. I hunt things. Not just any things, but preternatural things. Despite Cameron's Law making all us preternatural creatures legal citizens, there are still some that misbehave, so I hunt down the ones that everyone else is afraid to, or isn't able to. I'm better at it than anyone else, so I get called a lot. It was my third NHF that month.
He knew that I was right behind him. The scent of wolf, cougar and magic was thick on the air. He followed the trail he thought would lead to freedom while I followed him. My preferred cat form was strong and fast. I liked cougar the best. It had a power to it that many other forms, even bigger and brawnier animals, didn't have. It made me better at my job when I felt comfortable in the skin I was wearing.
Leaping over a fallen tree trunk, I landed in a pile of leaves that crunched under my paws and the breeze shifted. I stopped abruptly and swung my head around, trying to pick up the scent I had suddenly been lost. The forest was silent, even the birds and insects were terrified by the sight of our chase. I stood perfectly still and then I caught the sound of his crashing through the trees and took off once again.
I could tell that he was growing tired. His steps slowed and lost their rhythmic pace. He'd be looking for a place to hide now, but there weren't any. I knew these woods well and with the mind of the human. He didn't. Stumbling ahead of me, I caught sight of him and surged forward, leaping on his back and sending him sprawling in a snarl with all four feet slipping at different angles.
I rolled off and got back on my feet before he did. Already, I had shifted to my human form and was pulling the tranquilizer gun off my belt. He lurched to his feet and leaped at me. I braced myself on one knee and fired. The dart caught him right in the throat, just before he landed right out of bite range. His huge jaws snapped at me and I danced back, waiting the few moments before the magically-enhanced drugs flooded his system and he collapsed in a heap of black fur at my feet.
I gazed down at the massive sleeping beast and sighed as I put the tranq gun away. This bastard was going to be heavy, but there was nothing for it. I bent down and pulled the huge frame across my shoulders and lifted with my knees. He was fucking heavy, even with all my strength, but I carried him back through the woods, expertly following my tracks back to my car where I piled the beastie in the back of my the SUV and shut the hatch.
From there, everything was pretty easy. I drove him down to the office laughingly called Animal Control. I say that because really it was just a place to house animals until they figured out what to do with them. They had no one qualified to catch them, except me, and were barely qualified to keep them. But there was no where else to go, so I dropped sleeping beauty off and got my signed receipt.
Then I went home.

In "Voracious," the life D wants isn't what it seems. He certainly never planned on the fangs, but he's going to need a lot more than the pointy teeth to survive the first weeks of his new existence.

Excerpt:
Call it what you want.
It was that untamable, undeniable, inescapable hunger that I had, and it grew with every passing hour. Some might compare it to the first time you heard the roar of a Camaro -- the only way it was meant to be heard, with eight cylinders and nothing holding it back from ripping itself right out of the car. Others might think of it as that unfed monster that dwells in your gut after the first time you've flown, that taste of the sky and the edge of the earth that leaves you wanting more and more. Voracious. That's it. The hunger I had was voracious and it grew worse by the day.
Little did I know exactly what that meant for me.
I suppose I had always been restless. I was the kid who couldn't sit still. I turned into the teenager who chased things in cyberspace when I wasn't earning speeding tickets or getting shot down by girls far out of my league. When my job offered the chance for a transfer up North, I packed up my Southern roots and replanted them in Connecticut, no matter who got left behind.
Despite trying to put a thousand miles between this feeling and me, it was still there. Every day, it seemed to grow a little more. The hunger was a black hole threatening to swallow the galaxy of my life. No matter what I tried, I couldn't seem to find what would fill it. I tried. Believe me, I tried, but the hunger was insatiable.
It was voracious.
The first night when that black hole seemed poised to suck everything into it at last, I woke up with the mother of all hangovers. It was so bad that it had swallowed much of the night before, which had been my goal in the first place. Anything to escape my life's monotony, though it usually didn't work.
I peeled my eyelids apart, but when the bright light assaulted me, I shut them again. After a few moments, I gave it another shot and managed to look around, learning that I'd fallen asleep on my sofa. That was unusual. I usually made it to the bed.
Last night careened through my mind in the briefest of flashes. Most of it was the same as always, but there was the occasional intrusion of a woman across the room. She stared with an intensity one didn't usually enjoy without either being fucked senseless or found cut up in the freezer two months later.
Pushing myself up to a seat, I realized the television was playing. In all the brief flashes of memory, I didn't have one that had me turning it on. If I'd had my choice, it definitely wouldn't have been the news, which was what was on.
"Senator Joshua Clancy has issued a statement regarding the disappearance of his daughter, fourteen year old Sandra, last January..." I half-listened. I remembered hearing about that a few times. The teenaged daughter of a state senator doesn't disappear without making some headlines. The newscaster continued. "The Connecticut senator was instrumental in the passing of the Preternatural Rights Act of 2010, also known as Cameron's Law, the controversial legislation making all preternatural creatures legal citizens. It's feared that the disappearance of Miss Clancy is retribution for his role..."
I started drowning the woman's voice out again, but couldn't help but think that sounded pretty shitty. I mean, I didn't like the idea of grocery shopping with werewolves any better than anyone else, but kidnapping a guy's kid? That just seemed low, if that was the case.
Turning off the television, I dragged myself to the bathroom and tried to brush the cotton out of my mouth. The shower was next, hoping to slough life off. That didn't work, but I got the dirt, sweat and oil. It was a start, though looking in the mirror afterward, I saw dark shadows under my eyes that were pronounced against my pale complexion. Though they matched my hair. Even so, I looked and felt like hammered shit.
Whatever the hell I had ended up drinking last night, I made a sober promise to never drink it again.

Book Description

Would you dare step back in time to find Mr. Right?

A frustrated Las Vegas party girl discovers a Red Mirror in an antique mall and succumbs to the lure of the bold-eyed woman in the glass. “Come,” the Mirror beckons, “taste of a life more sensuous than any dream.”

The exotic life that tempts is one she once lived as Isis, priestess in the mystic cult of Hathor, Egyptian Goddess of Love. "I have secrets," her aura teased. "Wonderful secrets that only I can share."

On the banks of the ancient Nile, she meets River God of bronzed flesh and snowy linen. "You shall fly to the stars with my tongue on your lotus," he breathes in her ear. Alas, the gods have other plans. Isis finds herself first on a quest for the all-powerful Emerald Tablet, and then without warning, back in Las Vegas.

Uncertain and unnerved, Isis joins best friend Barb for a surprise encounter that compels her to go back through the Red Mirror in search of River God. But a desert hunt goes all wrong, and Isis the sex slave lands in the grip of the Persian General's thick fingers. "If you please me," he proposes, "you will belong to me and me alone, but only as long as I am pleased." One fateful night, a ride on a comet shows Isis the dark side of love and sets the price she must pay for freedom.

"There is more to this collection than a love story. Add in reincarnation and mysterious artifacts that cross time. The writing is high quality and full of imagery. I highly recommend Ms Gore's work."

Four hot men crossing back and forth through time. They all want her. Who will have her? Does she have to choose?

Who says a woman should have only one man?

Who says there's a Mr. Right?

One man is not enough for Isis. One life is not enough.

She has the Power - The Hathor Power.

Author's note: If you want to go right to the juicy parts, use the special Table of Contents to jump to those vignettes.

"I was transported through time to a world of Egyptian gods and goddesses, temples and high priestesses, honeyed dates and cleansing oils. And a woman who will never be satisfied by just one man, although Isis does love them all with great intensity. She has great taste too - these men are to die for."

The Isis Erotica collection is comprised of three connected adventures  that can be downloaded as ebooks in three parts: The Red Mirror, The Persian General and The Great Green

Part One: The Red Mirror. Who knew an old mirror in an antique store would promise pleasures more sensuous than any dream? Isis meets River God of bronzed flesh and snowy linen, the man with The Touch. She will do anything to feel that touch, even cross through time.

Part Two: The Persian General. A wild desert hunt goes all wrong when Isis is kidnapped by the Persian General. A bull of a man with legs like the columns of a temple, he holds her life in his thick fingers. But Isis has a destiny, and Isis has the Power - the Hathor Power.

Part Three: The Great Green. Isis is the chosen one, chosen by her father Hermes Trismegistus to protect the Emerald Tablet. But Isis needs protection herself from the evil Crown Prince and the invading Persians. Cosmic forces bring together the circle of souls in two passion-filled nights - one below deck on River God's ship on the Nile and the other on the Las Vegas Strip.

From the Author~ Why three versions of the same Isis story?

Let's call it an exercise to see if I could take on 3 different voices and write in 3 different styles. And then let's blame it on First Readers' feedback.

I wrote Isis Erotica in response to input from readers who shared that they photocopied the sexy parts of The Red Mirror (formerly Isis) before passing on the book. So why not put together a boiled-down version of the Isis story, cutting out a couple of characters and leaving the adventure and action while pumping up the sex? I like to call this my X-rated version.

Next, in response to my first readers who were uncomfortable with the explicit sex of the original version now titled The Red Mirror, I wrote Isis Beach Read  as a zippier version, cutting characters, simplifying Egyptian names and sanitizing the sex. The sex scenes are still there, but more is left to the reader's imagination. I call this version PG-16. Although I must admit, I would have read this book at 13 and not blushed at all.

What readers are saying about Isis Erotica

Love and passion that crosses time, 18 Nov 2012~ By Kayla S

This review is from: Isis Erotica (Kindle Edition)

A chance twitter conversation led me to this gem of a collection. Tempted by the historical setting I succumbed to the beautiful cover. I was not let down.
Ms Gore knows her era well - visit her website - and I was transported through time to a world of Egyptian gods and goddesses, temples and high priestesses, honeyed dates and cleansing oils. And a woman who will never be satisfied by just one man, although Isis does love them all with great intensity. She has great taste too - these men are to die for.
The premise behind this trilogy took me by surprise. I did find the first book slow in pace, but I was too absorbed by the world of Isis to care. The twist that left me gasping was Isis and The General. I could not believe what she did. Self-preservation is a powerful thing. After that the story flowed effortlessly and I was riveted by the facedown between the men in Isis' life.
There is more to this trilogy than a love story. Add in reincarnation and mysterious artifacts that cross time and you have excellent value for money. The writing is high quality and full of imagery. I highly recommend Ms Gore's work.

Excerpt:
I was wearing the wrong damn shoes. Bounding through the pitch-black overgrown empty urban lots, my legs were long past aching and well into screaming territory. I gulped in the crisp fall air and forced myself to sprint harder.

"Do you need me to carry you?" My partner Frankie, the vampire I was trying to keep pace with, shouted over his shoulder. His voice was thick with sarcasm.

I slowed down just enough to yank off my heels, carrying one in each hand. I wasn't expecting to play decoy tonight, and I'd be damned if I was going to lose my shoes in some godforsaken overgrown lot in the middle of Newark, New Jersey. These were custom-designed heels from SteamTropolis in Seattle, after all. These vampires would have to pry them from my cold, dead hands before I let them go.

Newark had a pretty major vampire infestation. The despair and decay that the city had fallen into over the past several decades lured us, and the population was exploding.

Frankie and I had spent the last three weeks here, advising the Mayor on how to eradicate the pests. We are part of a small but efficient top-secret task force of hunters that handle rogue supernaturals for the Defense Department. The program had the highest security clearance. Even the President had no idea we existed, or that the crew Frankie and I assembled to help eradicate their vampire pest problem was flying in to join Newark's finest the next day.

So Mayor Cory Booker, head of a crime-soaked New Jersey city, had one up on the Commander-in-Chief. We only let the mayor in on what we were doing because he walked in on a vampire sucking the life out of one of his staffers in his office in City Hall. Even more shocking, Mayor Booker kicked the vampire's ass before driving a stake through his chest. Not only was he unflappable politically, but Mayor Booker’s wild adrenaline surge also made him a first-rate vampire slayer. With that kind of muscle, he deserved to know the truth.

It was our last night in Newark and, to show his thanks, Mayor Booker threw us a bon voyage party at his home. I busted out my best outfit for the occasion: a beautiful strapless number that looked like long silk bandages crisscrossing over each other. The addition of a bustier underneath made my usually small boobs appear more ample. And, of course, finishing the outfit were my fabulously impractical heels.

Since Mayor Booker was the newest threat to the vampires’ stronghold, a vampire nest crashed the party. Six very motivated vamps thundered feet first through his front window. Clearly whoever was in charge considered it a suicide mission and sent out his flunkies. Dressed like a cheap imitation of a Hell’s Angels biker gang, it was vampire amateur hour at the Booker household. They actually brought human weapons in with them, including a submachine gun. Some waved metal pipes.

An amateur vampire is still a vampire, and still just as deadly. Between the fangs, the pipes and the gun, not to mention the glass shrapnel from the window, the place was a bloody mess. Newark’s police chief had a nasty gash on his throat, the vampire missing his jugular by mere centimeters. I was able to stake him with a broken broom handle before he could kill the poor man. Shattered window glass embedded into the arm of the Mayor’s press secretary. Vampire Moron started shooting up the place, so blood was flowing freely. The carnage appeared to be a violent political hit gone wrong. It’s shockingly easy to hide a supernatural attack.

It was bedlam. Frankie and I distracted the hit squad so the Mayor's security forces could get him out of there. It was a good reminder of why I don't usually get dressed up.

After kicking my heels off, I closed the distance between me and Frankie. I could barely make out his aristocratic profile in the sliver of moonlight peeking through the dark clouds. Frankie still looked impeccable in his fitted black blazer, skinny trousers and dress shoes, which he was running around in just fine.

"You need me to carry you, old man?" I huffed, throwing his earlier sarcasm back at him.

Frankie laughed, the rich sound echoed down the alleyway we had turned into. He wasn't the least bit out of breath.

Wait. Echoed? Shit.

I reached out and grasped Frankie's forearm and squeezed. We skidded to a stop, gaping at the brick wall in front of us. My eyes darted around. There was a fire escape about 15 feet above us. Frankie could probably jump it. But there was no way I would make it up there. And Frankie wouldn't be able to jump it with me on his back. Too much weight for a straight-up vertical leap. At over 500 years old, Frankie was one of the strongest vampires I had ever met. But a jump like that was pushing it.

I bent over at the waist, grasped my kneecaps and sucked in air as my mind raced through scenarios for escape. None of them were good. We were going to have to fight our way out of this.

Reluctantly dropping my exquisite shoes on the ground, I reached down the front of my dress and pulled a silver-tipped stake from my bustier.

Frankie's eyes were wide. "Nice tailoring." He nodded appreciatively and peered down my dress. "What else do you have in there?"

I smacked him upside the head. "Focus!"

The five vampires appeared at the mouth of the alleyway.

I crouched low, trying to pick out the weakest link in the dim light. With my mixed blood, I was stronger than a regular human, but I had to be realistic.

"Second from right," Frankie whispered, nostrils flaring. He knew my limits too. "Pretty new dead. Still smells almost human. But watch your back."

I nodded, my eyes now on the man. He looked close to 50, an ill-fitting denim jacket accentuated his middle-aged paunch, his long curls coarse and gray. His brown eyes glowed rabidly, appearing almost yellow. Crap. He was really new dead. I almost preferred going up against someone Frankie's age than a recent turn. They were always unpredictable.

With a howl, the pack of vamps charged us. Frankie stepped in front of me and pushed most of the pack out of my reach, leaving me with my one opponent. The vampire charged me blindly, fangs gnashing out uncontrollably. Passing the stake to my left hand, I brought my right around and backhanded him in the face. It sent him reeling and put a little distance between us. But it also pissed him off.

The vampire football-tackled me, hitting me hard in the stomach. The tight corset worn under my party dress (the one that also stored a small arsenal of stakes) impeded my breathing all night, which saved the wind from being knocked out of me. I skidded on my ass about four feet, his head still pressed in my stomach. I dropped my elbow into the back of his neck and heard a satisfying crack of it breaking. I scrambled out from under his limp body.

Then I turned to the melee beside me. Frankie was cracking two vampire's heads together. A third came up behind him and pushed a knife into his back.

"Frankie!" I charged at the pile of vamps. At the sound of my voice, the knife wielder turned towards me and my eyes focused on the sweet spot: his heart. I tossed my silver-tipped stake into my right hand, and with a primal scream, I pushed it in. The bones in his chest splintered with several loud cracks, then I felt the stake glide into the meat of the heart. He slumped to the ground.

Yanking the knife out of Frankie's back, I shifted to the left when something slammed into the side of my face. I landed on my side, and heard the tell-tale zrrippp of my skirt tearing.

Rubbing my sore cheek, I tried to get up, but the vampire grabbed me by my hips, dragging me backwards. The pavement shredded both my expensive fishnet stockings and the skin on my legs. Sticky, coagulating blood glued the threads from the stockings into my torn skin. The metallic scent of blood hit my nostrils a few seconds later.

Twisting, I kicked out and knocked my attacker in the kneecaps. These asshats were ruining my favorite outfit. The satisfying crunch of his kneecap shattering made me grin. Before I could lash out again, Frankie's hands gripped me under my arms and he pulled me closer to the brick wall, just as the one in the leather vest brought down a pipe aimed at my head. Sparks flew when it hit the pavement.

Frankie’s fangs were completely extended and his normally sky-blue eyes were a brilliant cerulean glowing against his porcelain white skin. His overgrown black hair was matted with blood. Frankie was terrifying when he was full-on vampire.

Frankie drew my attention back to the vampires with the point of a finger. Like teen girls at the mall, the horde moved in a clump, their broken and battered limbs pushing and kicking at each other. Their heads were twitched and twisting, noses in the air, picking up the enticing aroma of my Type O Negative.

Headlights turned into the alleyway, and the shock of light made me lose sight of the vampires just feet away from me. I tried to shield my eyes from the bright lights as the SUV shrieked down the alley. It smashed into the vampire cluster, scattering them. A hulking figure popped out of the open sunroof, wooden stakes in both hands. It was Mayor Booker, arriving on the scene like a superhero. I half expected to see a cape flapping behind him.

"Y'all got to get the hell out of my city!" Mayor Booker's resonant voice boomed down the alleyway.

He jumped down to the hood of the SUV. The vampires surrounded his car. With their attention diverted, Frankie and I needed to move. Mayor Booker may be bad-ass, but there was no way he could take on five full bloods.

Frankie pulled three stakes out of his jacket and tossed one to me. Grabbing it one-handed, I reached down into my dress again and took out my last stake. Frankie, moving faster than me, staked a young male vampire through the back, going straight through his heart. I staked my middle-aged vampire in a similar fashion. Two vampires down, three to go, only one stake left in my hand.

The three remaining vampires were now on the hood of the car, facing off with the Mayor. Frankie caught one by the ankles and pulled him down off the car, leaving the Mayor to battle it out with two. Booker swung a right hook, destabilizing the taller one, before bringing the stake in his opposite hand directly into the other vampire's heart. While he shoved the dead vampire off the car, the other reared up and pushed into the Mayor, sending both onto the pavement with a slam.

The tumble smacked the Mayor's head into the ground, and he seemed disoriented as he staggered to his feet. The vampire loomed over him. Grabbing the Mayor by the shoulders, fangs grinding, his eyes had that sheen of crazy that a vampire gets just before a kill. He brought his barely 18-year-old face towards Booker's neck.

I sprinted towards them and launched myself into the air, landing on the vampire’s back. Grabbing him around the head, I twisted his neck, breaking it. He slumped to the ground. Good thing he was built more like a basketball player than a football hero. I drove my last stake into his heart.

With a grunt, Frankie nailed the final vampire with a stake. "Are you all right, Mr. Mayor?"

"Yes, thank you," Mayor Booker said as he rubbed his shaved head, leaving a streak of blood on his scalp.

The three of us stared at the bloodbath around us.

"You two okay?" Mayor Booker asked, trying to catch his breath.

I yanked mournfully at my tattered skirt. "My outfit is fucked."

Mayor Booker dropped his arm around my shoulders, "That dress was beautiful."

My heart skipped a few beats. This man was smart, hot, and could take on vampires. I could feel a major crush coming on. I glanced at him and smiled shyly.

Frankie gave me a little shove, bringing me back to earth. "Oh God. Stop being such a girl."

I nodded. "Mr. Mayor, Frankie and I will clean up. You shouldn't be here for this."

He began to protest, but Frankie, removing his coat and pulling out a scythe-like knife that was holstered on his side, intervened. "Nina's right, Mayor. They aren't completely dead yet. We have to finish them off. And you really don't need to be party to this."

"How do you kill them, then?" The Mayor was determined to see this through, but it was time for him to get out of here.

"We have to cut off their heads, then remove their hearts and burn them," I said. My matter-of-fact tone made him look momentarily uncomfortable. "Seriously, Sir, if someone saw you decapitating something that looks like a human.... Not good."

"Point taken," he nodded. "Thank you both. For everything."

He shook our hands, climbed into his SUV and was off, leaving Frankie and me to do what we did best: destroy vampires.
