Author Rowan Coleman & A Woman Walks Into A Bar

Hi all!

Please help me welcome Author Rowan Coleman to my blog today!

Woman Walks into a Bar

On September 10th Rowan is publishing her novella Woman Walks into a Bar as an ebook for the first time. And 100% of her proceeds will be donated to Refuge.
Her goal is to raise £10,000 and you can help. All you have to do is buy a book, or two, and get your friends to buy one too. You’ll get a funny, romantic and touching summer read and you’ll be helping women you’ve never even met at the same time and all for the price of £1.59!

The story behind the story

Every book Rowan have ever written has meant a lot to her, but with her latest book ‘Dearest Rose,’ something really special happened when the real world and the fiction she loves to write collided.  It changed her as a person and a writer, forever.
She was getting ready to research her tenth novel, which with the help of her Facebook readers she decided should pivot around the theme of domestic abuse. It was a subject she’d touched on briefly once before, when she wrote a short novella as one of the first Quick Reads called Woman Walks into a Bar, which to this day remains one of the pieces of work of which she is most proud.
So she posted on her Facebook page asking if anyone had any personal experiences of domestic abuse, and any stories they might share with her in confidence.
She was shocked and amazed by the response; there were more than 200 emails waiting in her inbox the next day. Each story she read was horrific and frightening in its own way, giving her an insight into the secret lives of many women; lives that all too often remain hidden. Domestic abuse can happen to anyone - well educated wealthy women are just as likely to suffer as women from a working class background - but the one thing all those women had in common was that they were survivors. After years of being mentally and physically beaten down, they had managed to find the emotional strength, somehow, to break free and start again.
Now Rowan wants to do something that will help other women find that inner courage, and change their lives.

‘Woman Walks into a Bar’ is the story of 28-year-old single mother Sam spends her days working in the local supermarket and her Friday nights out with her friends letting her hair down at the White Horse. Life hasn’t been easy for Sam and her daughter, Beth (who always looks on the bright side) but she’s always hoped that one day she’ll break free from her past and meet The One.
But after a series of terrible dates with men she’s met through an internet dating site, that have all been as awful as her daughter’s terrible jokes, she’s starting to lose heart - until her friends tell her they’ve set her up on a blind date. Sam’s horrified but finally she agrees to go. After all you never know when you might meet the man of your dreams; maybe Sam’s happy ending is just about to begin….

So, come on and join Rowan, and help to #supportafriend on September 10th. Every time you buy or pre-order ‘Woman Walks into a Bar’ you’ll be entered into a prize draw for fabulous prizes every week, while the #supportafriend #womanwalks campaign is running. On 10th September, tweet Rowan photos of you and your friends, tell her your ideas to support a friend, and why your friends mean so much to you.
You can be a best friend to someone you have never even met. You can help someone out there find the support they need to change their lives.

If you are a blogger or tweeter, spread the word using #supportafriend #womawalks. If you are a company who could offer a prize to drive book sales and thereby money for Refuge, please get in touch. If you are a woman in an abusive relationship, or if you have a friend about whom you are worried, please get in touch with Refuge and ask for help today.

Author Candace Osmond & Blood and Bone

Hi all!

Please welcome Author Candace Osmond to my blog today!

About the Author:

Born in 1985 as Candace Osmond in North York Ontario, I began to travel with my parents at the very young age of four years old. I had lived all over Canada and seen everything my country has to offer, from the enchanting shores of Newfoundland to the gigantic snowcapped mountains of British Columbia all by the time I was ten. I did, however, spend most of my life in Eastern Canada where I was surrounded by folklore and legends, not knowing how they would shape my personality and imagination for the rest of my life.

Being the only girl of my age in a small group of kids, in an even smaller town, left me spending most of my time by myself and, in result, letting my imagination take over. I would sit by the shore and dream up stories of mermaids and other fantastic creatures to pass the time. Coming from a family with writers and artists dispersed throughout, it was only natural that I spend my time writing, drawing and reading. I dreamed of becoming nothing more than an artist, a creator of any kind. By the age of eleven, I spent most of my waking hours scribbling down short stories, poems and anything else I could think of, while adding my own personal illustrations. By the age of fourteen, I had won numerous local and minor arts and writing competitions.

I excelled at anything art and literature related so, naturally, I planned to attend university for nothing more or less than that. In 2003 I planned to attend university for Creative Writing and Literary Studies. But, with the fear that I would spend all my time and money on an education and end up in a field that I may very well struggle to succeed in, I backed out and attended school for Design instead. Now, a successful Designer specializing in interiors, I met a man and fell in love. His passion and talent for art far exceeds my own, but he motivated me and awakened my old habits of staying up late and waking up early to scribble down dreams and ideas before I had forgotten them and they disappeared forever.

Blood and Bone
The Iron World Series
Book Two
Candace Osmond

Genre: YA Urban Fantasy

ISBN: 9781301362028
ASIN: B00ED406KI

Number of pages: 250 roughly
Word Count: 74,960

Cover Artist: Corey Majeau from Coris Designs

Book Description:

The stakes are high in the second installment of The Iron World Series as Avery Quinn decides which path her life will take. Become a vampire and be with Jack forever, or pledge herself to the Fey and help save Faerie from the horrible Queen Mabry?

The more she thinks about it the more she wants to remain human. But as she sinks further into the magical world she has come to love, Avery realizes that remaining human is next to impossible, especially when a dark king sets his sights on her. To make matters worse, a secret society of shape shifters have sworn themselves as Avery’s enemy all because of a certain classmate with a caustic temperament.

With a mythical war brewing and Evaine close on her heels, Avery must decide who to give her humanity to before it’s too late.

Excerpt:
Change has an irrevocable impact on the mind, body and soul. To the fearful its threateningit means there’s a possibility that things could get worse. To the hopeful, however, it’s encouraging because it means things could get better.
Was I fearful or was I hopeful?
I lay in bed, staring at the ceiling in my sunlit bedroom and pondered about that. To most people this wouldn’t be so stressful. To most people change meant a new hair color or a new job.
But I realized a while ago—I am not most people.
I had been left to make a choice that was so life changing that it would alter me completely, forever. I could choose to become a vampire and gain the strength I desperately needed to protect myself. With this choice I could spend an eternity of nights in the arms of the most perfect creature because I too, would be a perfect creature.
Or, I could choose to pledge myself to a monarch, a leader of the fey. Become a child of magic, wonder and beauty and still possess the strength I need for my defense.
Or door number three, choose not to choose. I could remain human, as I’d lived comfortably for the past eighteen years now. But, to choose nothing would still be a choice, and would determine the path my life would take. None of my options guaranteed a smooth path. But I had a lingering a feeling that, no matter what I chose, the path that was unwinding in front of me was going to be very, very rocky.

BLURB

A little FAITH can get you through…

One night. That’s all Finn had with the only girl he ever loved. Years later, all he has left of that night is a silver cross, a broken give a damn, and the unrelenting desire to drink her memory away. As the lead singer of Blow Hole, Finn has his pick of women, but none are able to squash the need he still carries around for Faith. To hate her offers some relief, but when Finn sees her again after so many years, it’s hard to despise her. Especially when every reason he had to hate her, turn out to be lies.

Tara Fox Hall & Immortal Confessions

Hi all!

Please help me welcome the AMAZING Tara Fox Hall to my blog again today! She is so amazing that I can't help but keep putting her on and with all her new books coming out, she's a busy lady!

Thank you so much, my liege Vampire Queen, for having me here today! J
September brings two new additions to the Promise Me Series…though neither takes up where Book #4, Taken for His Own, left off late last spring. Instead, I wanted to take an opportunity to fill in the blanks for readers by giving them some origin stories, and also give new readers a way to jump into the Promise Me Universe without feeling they needed to read a ton of books to catch up.

Promise Me Anthology #1 collects previously published tales from the Promise Me Universe into one volume along with brand new novella-length stories. Why are these necessary, when we already have a series? Mainly because the Promise Me Series is told for the most part through Sarelle’s eyes, so a reader can’t see events of which she has no knowledge. I wanted to use these stories to give background on several known series characters—and also foreshadowing on several who will shortly make themselves known. Danial, Devlin, Theo, and Sarelle are the main characters of the earlier Promise Me books and readers know them well. But characters such as Terian, Heather, Nate, Kyle, Tasha, and the vampire couple David and Krystin have their own part to play in the unfolding of upcoming major events in the series.

Immortal Confessions, though labeled Book #5, is an origin tale of the main villainous vampire from the Promise Me Series, Devlin Dalcon. It details all of what happened between Danial, Devlin, and the human woman who began their centuries long feud, Annabelle. A new reader can begin with that book, and go right to Promise Me #1 with no confusion. Why does Devlin get his own book, when he’s already got a story of his own in the Promise Me Anthology AND mentions in most of the other stories in that volume as well? Because he:
1.      Is Hot!
2.      Is a 400+ vampire that never fails to entertain and enthrall
3.      Loves sex...and is not afraid to do anything and everything to please his lover
4.      Often risks his life to save the ones he loves
5.      Sings with a siren’s voice and quotes poetry
6.      Is Hot!
All kidding aside, Devlin gets his own book to show readers the origin of his complex and tragic character. Until now, we’ve heard everything from Sarelle’s or Danial’s POV…and that’s less than half of the real story.
Devlin is hated by most everyone in the Promise Me Series—including the main heroine Sarelle. That hatred is pretty justified. He’s done some pretty dark things in the first Promise Me book to try to steal Sarelle from her vampire lover Danial, including seduce her with words, influence her with his blood, and even magically give her nightmares to weaken her will. When that didn’t work, he used Vampire Law to maneuver Sar into a position where she either had to choose death or become his lover. When she chose death, the spurned Devlin delivered it with his fangs until Sar’s timely rescue, which also resulted in Devlin’s fall from power and his banishment…giving both parties even more reason to hate one another. Yet with the birth of Danial and Sarelle’s dhamphir son Theoron a few years later, a repentant Devlin comes back into the story, bearing flowers and asking for Sar’s forgiveness. While Sar doesn’t give it, she is polite for Danial’s sake.
Over the course of the next book, the two move from uneasy truce to something like allies. Devlin goes on to save Sar’s life several times in Taken for His Own, his repeated self-sacrifice on Sar’s behalf lowering her guard…yet then he turns on her suddenly in mid-rescue, offering her the same deal from years past, which this time she takes.
After their day together, Sar is deeply conflicted. She admits to herself that she has always wanted Devlin because of his tragically romantic character coupled with his handsome good looks. Yet she can’t reconcile that with the terrible things he’s done. He tells her he loves her, but she doesn’t believe him…how can she, with the past they share?
Immortal Confessions is Devlin’s persuasion to readers that he is not just the villain he has been made out to be. Should we believe him? Read and decide!

Immortal Confessions (Promise Me Series #5 – prequel #0.5) Blurb: At the turn of the 19th century, former aristocrat turned lowly vampire Devlin Dalcon gets by on his supernatural charms until he meets bride-to-be Annabelle. Smitten by Anna’s forthrightness, intellect, and bravery, Devlin risks his life to spirit her away to Fontainebleau, France. There Devlin begins his ascent to power in a desperate bid for wealth and social standing for himself and Anna. Forging alliances with other supernatural leaders, he usurps the vampire Lord of Fontainebleau, amassing many enemies during his brief reign. Within a few years, he and Anna are again forced to flee for their lives to America. Living in hiding, Devlin is determined to amend his ways. But when tragedy strikes, Devlin’s dark side, never fully extinguished, emerges
rampant, securing him the bloody throne of America even as his malevolence and loneliness consumes him.

Excerpt: Now we were getting somewhere. “Explain this, as I’ll need to know. What are the rules in this city, besides no killing?”
“Not many. Don’t kill humans, unless they attack you, and even then, make it look an accidental murder by stealing from them. Don’t trouble the richer citizens at all, not for any reason. Don’t bother the other supernatural citizens—”
            “Who?”
“The sorcerers and witches, the goblins and the faeries,” he said, bored. “There is also a family of werevultures that inhabit this town, near the edge. Them, too.”
Werevultures? Was he kidding? “So there are no werewolves?”
“As a rule, not here in the cities, though there are sometimes one or two that pass through,” he said with something like relief. “I’ve heard they stick to the countryside. Most weres do, as it’s easier to blend in there.”
Weres, he called them. Hmm. “What are they like?”
“The ones I’ve talked to say they miss the forest, or the water, or their caves—”
            “Caves?”
“Werebats, mostly. They are the most prevalent werecreature around these parts. There is a large colony near the river.”
            “Are they off limits?”
Quentin took a deep breath. “I’m glad you brought this up. Technically, no, they aren’t. They have an agreement with Guy, the City’s Lord, to stay out of the city, and he leaves them alone. But some stupid vampire hunter attacked them last week, killing a bunch of their women and children when he mistook them for vampires. It happens often, I’m afraid. The other werebats killed him, but they’re raging now. They are killing any vampire they can, primarily ones they find alone, in retaliation.” He looked over at me. “It’s them I need you to guard me against.”
“Won’t that die down quickly, though? Surely the bats can be made to see it was not our fault?”
“Guy is not diplomatic,” Quentin said with a sigh. “Things are going to get worse before they get better. Besides, at heart, he’s a coward. He knows that there are more of them than there are of us, enough so it’s close to three to one in their favor. Because of those odds, he will not make them stop. This has happened before, Devlin. The attacks will continue until the bats feel they’ve taken enough blood back.”
I thought about that. There was a huge opportunity here for not just the means to support Anna and myself, but to gain real power. Still, I needed to understand much about this world and this city before I’d be ready to proclaim myself king of it.

The Spirit of St. Augustine

Have you ever been to St. Augustine, Florida, America’s oldest city? To me, it’s a magical

place, just bubbling with the spirits of bygone days. This is especially true at Christmas when the

historical district is ablaze with tiny white lights. The Nights of Lights, they call the time from

It isn’t just the beautiful old buildings, some from the time of the Spanish, that has captured my

soul. No, it’s also the ghostly presences arising out of that past that seem to tap you on shoulder,

a few even of Native American origins from thousands of years ago.

Oh, yes! Ghost stories abound in this ancient location, as do the ghost tours. By day and by night,

guides will walk with you, transport you by tram or hearse, and even take you aboard a sailing

As a former history teacher and writer well experienced in the paranormal, you can see how St.

Augustine might hold some appeal for me. But it’s much more than that if you want to know

the truth. Seems at times as if that old city is using me to channel its innermost essence. Can I

explain what I mean by that exactly? No, not really. Words are often a poor substitute for a felt

What I can tell you is this. I’ve spent weeks on end in St. Augustine, haunting its ancient

streets and buildings, doing endless research in the city’s historical society and talking with

people—even homeless folks. And the more I do this, the more I know I made the right choice

in selecting St. Augustine as the central location for my young adult, paranormal/historical series

that I’ve titled, The St. Augustine Trilogy.

In the process, what I also know is that there are no coincidences. My connection to this old city

and writing about it in the trilogy was definitely meant to be. What was also meant to be is the

linkage now being established between St. Augustine and readers of my series. This includes the

wonderful relationship I have established with Julia Hendrix, my friend and assistant who hails

from Tulsa, Oklahoma. I live just north of Orlando.

You see, as I continue to study the paranormal in general, I increasingly perceive reality as

endless layers within layers. And when I’m in St. Augustine, it’s as if the city hold a lens up

to me so I can look deeper into the nature of existence and the connectivity my work holds for

readers. That’s why on the cover of Book I of the trilogy, Sliding Beneath the Surface, I show

a picture of an exquisite Chinese puzzle ball with all those multiple layers carved beneath its

What an incredible journey I’m having. Thank you so much for being part of it.

BRIEF SYNOPSIS

In old St. Augustine, Florida, fifteen-year-old Jeff Golden’s recurring dream of being

stabbed in the chest and bleeding all over his bed is driving him crazy. It’s causing him to lose

sleep and giving him severe headaches. When his psychically gifted friend Carla and an ornery

Native American shaman named Lobo try to help, Jeff is inundated with terrifying paranormal

Reaching out of Florida’s distant past, something increasingly entangles Jeff in tentacles

of danger that threaten his sanity and eventually his life. But the harder he tries to understand,

the deeper he gets. When comprehension finally dawns though, time has almost run out. Lobo

does his best to prepare Jeff for what he must face in order to survive but it may be too little and

It’s at this point that both Jeff and Carla find themselves swept headlong into an

alternative reality from which they may never return. If they don’t quickly and fully adapt to this

situation, all hope is lost. From Lobo they know how it might be possible to change what is

happening but the question is, can they? Repeatedly, Lobo has told both teens, “You create your

own reality whether in this world or in another.” If acted upon properly, that advice just might

save their lives and end suffering on an even wider scale.
