Book Description:

Fog and Fascination

Alba Spencer thought her past in Romania and the dark magic that haunted it was behind her forever. She is one of the first female barristers now, safe in London. But London has its dark side, too. A man called the Ripper stalks the midnight streets. There are rumors that her hated stepmother has found her again, suggestions that the nightmares of her childhood are returning. And with them appears the cursed Gypsy boy she once loved, grown into a man more seductive and more terrifying than she ever could have dreamed…

Dimitri Grigorescu has become a surgeon, a gentleman—and a vampire. The lusts that drive his body are scarcely under control, and even he does not truly know what he is capable of. To fight evil and confusion, Alba must rely only on her wits—and a desire that overwhelms her doubts…

Excerpt from SNOW WHITE AND THE VAMPIRE

“I’m very grateful for Teddy’s friendship—and for the opportunity to be introduced to the people he’s acquainted with.” The surgeon lowered his tone. “People like you, Miss Spencer.”
His words encouraged the spattering of nervous blotches across Alba’s chest. “You’re too kind,” she murmured. “So you find this city a pleasant enough place to live?”
“Pleasant but for the brutal murderer who lurks in the Whitechapel District.”
“Are you referring to the killer the newspapers are calling ‘Leather Apron’?” she asked.
He evaluated her with interest yet said nothing.
“I understand this monster killed two unfortunates by ripping their abdomens wide open,” she went on, making no attempt to sugarcoat her words since she was speaking with a surgeon.
“Where did you hear that, Miss Spencer?”
“It said so in the penny dreadfuls. Oh, not that I read them frequently…”
Drake raised an eyebrow.
What am I saying? She didn’t normally babble on so, but this man had lit a fire beneath her, though she couldn’t say why.
To her great relief, the doctor didn’t seem to notice her jittering nerves. “Nasty business, preying on those unknowing women,” said. “I can’t imagine a man treating any female that way. After all, women are beautiful creatures to be coddled. Admired. Cherished.”
“That’s a lovely thought.” Alba repressed a girlish sigh. “It’s a shame the killer does not share your school of thought.”
Drake wrapped his hands around his back. “I daresay the police believe this murderer will strike again.”
“I fear that is why fewer people came to your party this evening than Teddy anticipated. The city is gripped with fear.” She paused to take a sip of champagne. “Perhaps we should talk about something more uplifting than murder.”
“Yes.” The surgeon took her glass and deposited it on a servant’s tray. With his hand pressed to the small of her back, he guided her to a quiet corner of the drawing room. As she turned to face him, she could smell hot liquor fumes and the scent of expensive aftershave. Surprisingly, she found that she liked the mixture of aromas.
“Teddy tells me you hail from Romania as well, Miss Spencer. What are the
chances of that?”
“Slim, I daresay.”
“You’ve lost a great deal of your accent, but if I had to guess, you are from Bucharest.”
“I am.” How did he know?
His features darkened. “It appears we were destined to meet. And since we have, I’d be fascinated to know more about you.”
Although Alba was taken aback by his boldness, nerves propelled her to continue their conversation in a blabbering rush. “I came to London when I was fourteen—to live with a family friend who runs the dormitory apartments of the Royal Opera’s corps de ballet. Just this year, I graduated from law school. That’s where Teddy and I met—at King’s College. Recently, I’ve been assisting Teddy’s father, Harold Rollingsworth, in the hopes that—”
“—you will become London’s first female barrister.” Drake completed her thought. Tilting his head to the side, he gazed at her with admiration. “Lovely, intelligent, and a pioneer. You are a rare gem, Miss Spencer.”
The Romanian’s hungry stare closed the small distance between them. Alba’s cheeks burned. We hardly know one another!
Desperate to steer the conversation away from herself, she cleared her
throat. “I have yet to wish you a happy birthday, Dr. Griffin.”
“Thank you.” The guest of honor did a cordial bow. “But ‘Griffin’ is merely my professional name.”
Alba frowned. “What is your real name?”
“Dimitri Grigorescu.”
Alba’s limbs froze and the room started to take on a slow whirl. “That’s curious,” she murmured. “I knew someone by that name in Romania.”
“And I once knew a girl named Alba Zǎpǎda,” Dimitri said as a curtain of desire passed over his face. “You.
His lips thinned into a familiar smile and Alba’s hand flew to her gaping mouth. Curse my poor eyesight! Now that she was this close to him she knew precisely who he was: Dimitri, the handsome Gypsy boy she’d fallen in love with at the tender age of fourteen.
Words escaped her while she gasped for air.
“Life is too short to be without the ones you love,” Dimitri purred. “Don’t you think?”
All at once, memories of the summer Alba spent in the Balkan countryside flashed through her mind:
The first kiss she and Dimitri shared amid a field of white poppies.
Simona, Dimitri’s raven-haired friend.
And the terrifying night the three of them spent in a haunted graveyard.
Her blood raced and the room spun in faster circles.
“I’ve been waiting an eternity to return this to you,” Dimiti whispered as he slipped a dried white poppy into her hand.
“But I thought you were dead,” she said before everything went black.

Julia Hughes & The Griffin's Boy

Hi all!

Please help me welcome Author Julie Walker to my blog today!

Hi Jodie and thank you for hosting "The Griffin's Boy Flying Book Tour – incorporating The Great Griffin Giveaway".

If your readers are wondering how anyone can gift wrap a griffin and put it under their Christmas tree, the answer is you don't. It would be unfair to the griffin, and probably detrimental to the tree's fairy lights.

Our up-for-adoption griffins are literary, not literal!

The winners of our contest will see both their adopted griffin's name and their name appear in "The Griffin's Boy", as illustrated in the extract below:

The Griffin Master's Choice ...

and the two griffins to be christened by our winners

(Griffin Master Romulus has arrived to select recruits from students and young griffins to join his elite squad. Fourteen year old nobody Neb, whose ambition is to work for Romulus as the equivalent of a stable lad, is keen to ensure his favourite griffin is chosen.)

'Behave, Balkind, best behave,' Neb muttered from the corner of his mouth. But just in case, he kept a hand on Balkind's shoulder. He buried his fingers into the ridge where the griffin's velveteen pelt gave way to a fluff of feathers and prayed harder than ever, as he watched his fate approach.

An odd couple indeed: Chantress Anderra glided as she walked. Her nest of dark brown hair, piled into a top knot above her narrow sharply angled face never stirred. Besides her elegance, barrel chested Romulus's rolling gait seemed more pronounced. A scar ran from his left temple to his upper lip, leaving that side of his face immobile. Apart from the puckered flesh around the scar, the left side of Romulus's face was smooth and unwrinkled; his milky left eye only half visible beneath a permanently semi closed eyelid. But the other side of the Griffin Master's weather beaten face was usually immobile too, and his remaining eye missed nothing.

Please let him chose Balkind, and please let him chose me as a griffin's lad. Neb's hand curled on the wing emerging from Balkind's shoulder until it clutched at a fistful of feathers. Surely Balkind would be chosen; he was difficult, but fast – and clever – a little too clever for his own good. If Balkind could talk, he probably wouldn't bother to speak with me. Neb smiled inwardly at that thought, but kept his eyes trained straight ahead. Chantress Anderra sailed past him. By contrast Romulus's head twisted this way and that, in an effort to see everything. Romulus pointed – this one, that one – his was the choice to make, Anderra advised.

Neb watched carefully, mentally approving the Griffin Master's selection: Almost instinctively, the experienced old warrior had chosen five of the swiftest, bravest and most obedient of the assembled griffins: Among them two of Neb's favourites, the tawny gold and black (winner's choice of name here), and the pied black and white (winner's choice of name here).

Neb's heart beat a little faster, and he sent up another prayer to anyone who might be listening: … One last griffin to be chosen; he has to name Balkind; he might not be the most obedient, but he is the fastest, and bravest. Please let him call out Balkind's name …

They were moving back down the line again. Anderra spoke into the Griffin Master's ear. Neb's ears were sharp and he heard their whispered exchange:

'Are you certain?'

'He has the makings of something special.' Their eyes moved over Neb and his griffin. Romulus nodded 'and Balkind,' he finished. Neb patted Balkind's shoulder, and almost allowed a grin to escape.

From "The Griffin's Boy" available in ebook from Amazon: now at a special launch price of only 99 cents, until Sunday 22nd December, when it will adjust to $3.50.

The Griffin's Boy Synopsis:

In a world where only those of noble birth are invited to join the elite Griffin Riders, orphan Neb is destined for a life of drudgery. His path changes when he steals the disobedient young griffin Balkind in an attempt to prove that you don't need noble blood to become a hero.
Join "The Griffin's Boy" on the adventure of a lifetime as he encounters girls for the very first time, learns the meaning of friendship and battles evil forces for his very soul.

Tara Fox Hall & Her Secret (Promise Me Series)

Hi all!

Please help me welcome one of my favorite Authors Tara Fox Hall to my blog today! She's got a new book in her Promise Me series called Her Secret!

IN A LOVER’S WORDS
The Making of Devlin Dalcon
It’s probably no secret by now to fans of the Promise Me Series that I made Devlin’s character to be the ultimate vampire. He is at times gentle and romantic, quoting poetry and comforting Sar in her darkest hour. Handsome and brave, a golden-haired god with fangs, ready to make her darkest fantasy come to vivid life. He is physically a supernaturally adept lover, willing to do anything to please her, catering to her every wish with all of his 400 years of uninhibited experience. Yet he is also fierce and demanding in satisfying his own desires, the utter Alpha male. His will shall not be denied or curtailed in any way…and the cumulation will not arrive until he has wrung the very last drop of gratification from it.
Much of this is standard for heroes in romance novels, I admit. Vampire tales are full of alpha males doing these exact things with their usual swooning heroines. Like everything else in this series, I wanted Devlin to stand apart from other vampires. So I gave Devlin one key difference from them. He always takes his seduction one step further, and it’s that key that gets him into Sar’s locked heart, when all his other tries at making her his lover have failed. What am I talking about? Devlin’s seduction is not with his body alone, but also his mind. He speaks to Sar almost always when they make love, telling her how much he desires her, how her body feels to him, the pleasure he is taking in their coupling, and how much he desires her climax at his hands.
Why did I do this? Talking throughout sex might seem silly to some people, like it might take away from the physical act. I contend that this exchange of words between lovers breaks down the very last barrier that exists between two lovers being truly one. Men are notoriously quiet in my personal experience, both in reality and in fiction. There is much about the sex act to them that is and remains a purely physical one. Women also are often quiet, I think. It is one thing to moan out that someone is pleasing you, an easy signal that takes no words. It is quite another to murmur in their ear that every stroke of their body into yours is pure heaven, that being with them like this is better than anything. This is so far above the “talking dirty” that there is not really a comparison. “Take me now, hard and fast,” does not evoke anything but lust. “Take all that I am, all of me, everything I have to give is yours” whispered in time with thrusts is enough to stop my heart, when I imagine that in a scene from the female character’s perspective. Much of that is the added emotional aspect that can’t be denied, giving mind-blowing status to a sex scene that was already hot and steamy as a sauna room.
But that is not all. I added one more aspect to Devlin’s repertoire: he sings to his lovers, as part of foreplay and afterglow. Again, some women are likely thinking, “singing? Are you serious?” My answer is yes, I am. I like to sing, and am fairly good. When you sing a romantic song to someone, just for them alone, putting your love into every word as you gently caress them, it intensifies the experience tenfold.
I find both of these aspects so powerful as they introduce vulnerability on the part of the lovers. If you are the singer, there’s an element of fear in putting yourself out there. Confessing your deepest feelings and desires in the middle of an act of physical passion has the possibility to backfire drastically…or make it the single most meaningful encounter that your partner ever experienced. There is a huge risk involved. Devlin feels that fear, but still always takes that risk, because he always wants the most encompassing and total satisfaction of his lover. To me, it doesn’t get any better than that.

Blurb: In a desperate effort to halt her transformation to vampire, and stop her longing for the sultry Devlin, Sarelle willingly takes a drug to kill her desire, even as Danial prepares for the introduction of their son Theoron at a Vampire Gathering on New Years Eve. Faced with Theo’s betrayal at the eleventh hour, Sarelle must either trust in Danial to save her, or join forces with Devlin, revealing her secret desire for him.

Excerpt:
            “Good afternoon, Sar.”
“Carol, is everything I say to you confidential?”
“Yes. Now what did you not feel comfortable telling me yesterday?”
            “You’re sure this is confidential?”
“Yes. Not only can I not tell Theo, I can’t tell anyone, or I risk losing my license. The exception would be if you’d harmed someone, or planned to hurt someone, including yourself.”
I shifted uncomfortably. “I need you to know that there is more to the story.”
“Go on,” she encouraged. “Tell me about this encounter. What was this man’s name?”
Oddly, I didn’t want to tell her Devlin’s name. “I’d rather not give you his name just yet.”
            “That’s fine. Please go on.”
“The man who I enjoyed…um, was with was also the man who rescued me that night from my abductors. He was badly injured doing so. He was also a vampire, and I gave him my blood to heal, though I knew it was wrong.”
“Why did you think it was wrong?”
“I wanted him secretly. He had saved me before, and I had wondered what being with him would be like. We’d had sexual chemistry from our first meeting, really. He’d come on to me in the past, and I’d fantasized about what would happen if I said yes.”
“Fantasizing doesn’t mean that you weren’t forced. You refused—”
“No, I gave in,” I amended. “I gave him permission.”
“Did you feel you had a choice, really?” she asked.
“Not at the time. But when I look back at what happened, I think I wanted him to take me just the way he did. I’m a resourceful woman, and I could’ve escaped, but I didn’t.”
“This second-guessing and recrimination is common in rape cases,” Carol said neutrally. “What happened wasn’t your fault.”
I looked away from her earnest gaze. “There’s more to the story.”
            “Please continue.”
“I left out a lot of things that Theo can’t ever know.”
            “Such as?’
“That the man who made love to me that day was the best lover I’ve ever had in my life and most likely the best one I’ll ever have.”
Carol’s eyes went wide with shock. “Why do you say that?” she said carefully.
“He was not afraid to say or do anything that might make the experience better, deeper, more fulfilling for me. He quoted poetry and sang to me as he touched and kissed me. He understood that by speaking to me, he could intensify everything I was feeling with my body. He used not only his body to love me, but his mind.”
Carol’s face had gone slack, enthralled. Oddly proud of Devlin’s skill, I continued. “Needless to say, the experience was amazing. Though I can’t feel much desire on these drugs, the thought of him still gets my heart racing.”

Author Elodie Parkes

Hi all!

Please help me welcome Author Elodie Parkes to my blog today!

Thank you for hosting me on your blog today with my new Evernight Publishing release, ‘A Little Mysterious’. It’s a Romance on the Go and an erotic paranormal romance. It’s contemporary and is set in England in any small town you’d care to visit.
I write contemporary romance, always erotic, sometimes with a twist of the paranormal, sometimes with a twist of mystery, suspense, magic, or drama.
Daisy and Dhruv are the main characters in ‘A Little Mysterious,’ and it’s their love story. (Smiles)
Dhruv is different. The setting is down the street from you, in the next town, and has the feeling that it could happen to you. The love story is so sexy. The love scenes are hot. The twist, is subtle, and comes in a phrase. The whole story hinges on it.
I always fall in love with my characters and these two are no different.

The book:
He’d been sent off course…he thought he was lost…until he found Daisy.

His vampire abilities were special. He belonged to an elite group. Moving home, they are set off course by a storm that lands Dhruv alone, hungry, and desperate in a strange town.
A story of lust, love, and coincidence.

Read an excerpt 18+
Daisy poured his coffee and took it to him.
He put out his hand and covered hers as she held the saucer to place the coffee in front of him. She felt the coolness of his skin and it made her feel feverish with desire. They locked eyes.
His gaze was filled with longing. Daisy knew she returned that look. She turned away, knowing that her nipples were hardening into peaks that might show through her light, cotton, work shirt. She felt a rush of dampness in her panties and her clit felt huge as her entire pussy clenched with desire.
She moved slowly away to another customer. All she could think of was having Dhruv’s cool hand between her legs, having those cool fingers stroke her clit, and then push deep so that she felt filled with them. The need was so strong she had to ask the next customers twice for their orders and apologize as her voice came out in a whisper.
Dhruv watched her with his ice blue eyes boring into her, until finally at almost ten, when the last of the food was served, and the kitchen began to wind down, she went to him.
“I can leave now as my shift ends at ten. Walk me home? It’s not far. I’d really like to talk with you, find out more about you. Dhruv, I…” She lost her nerve. It was okay because he nodded.
“Me too. I’ll walk with you.”
