Author P.J. Belden & Shadowed Attachments-part two!

Hi all!!

Please welcome back Author P.J. Belden to my blog for part two.

Author Interview:

What is your name? Do you use a pen name (if so, why?)?
Patti is my given name. PJ is a nickname and thus turned into what I write under 😊

Tell me a bit about yourself:
I’m a wife, a mother, a friend, sister… I love reading and writing.

What type of genre do you write?
Romance – contemporary, suspense, and have recently started paranormal.

What genre to you personally read?
Mainly romance, but I love a medical mystery or a thriller to break things up from time to time. I have also found that those little taboo reads that no one would admit to have become a secret addiction of mine.

Tell me about your latest?
The Fool. It's a contemporary emotional read about loss, depression, second chances and recovery.

What sparked your passion for books and the art of a good story?
I’ve always grown up wanting to write. It started out as a way to deal with things from my childhood, to something more. Any one that knew me back then always thought I’d grow up to be a journalist or something to do with writing. Well, in a way, I have proven them true.

Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp?
Most of my books have a message based around truths that so many want to ignore. Then there are some of my books that are personal. So really it depends on which of my books you are reading.

What challenges have you faced in your writing career?
Ha! This is a loaded question. I guess that I was naïve and thought things would be easier to break out a book. The time of writing, editing, cover design, formatting… It’s a lot to take on and can be pretty daunting.

What has been your best moment as a writer?
The people I’ve met. Seriously, I’m not being sentimental here. It truly is the best thing to come from my writing. There are some incredible people out there that I never would have met, had I not tried and take the jump and put my work out there for others to read.

Who is your author idol?
I could name so many here… Bella Andre, Lisa Mondello, Tracey Garvis-Graves, Jane Harvey-Berrick, Kim Holden, Colleen Hoover, Raine Miller, Harmony Raines, Dawn Sullivan, Kate Stewart and I’m just going to quit here LOL

Do you see yourself in any of your characters?
There is a piece of me in all my characters I think. I was told early on that you write what you know and how you feel and you can’t go wrong.

Do you feel like your dream has come true or is there much more to do?
Oh, there is so much more I still wish to do.

What does your workspace look like?
Well, now, I have a little sitting area in my room. On the table in front of my couch, I have notebooks that contain notes on the characters or stories and a cup of water and music on.

Have you ever had a day when you just wanted to quit?
All the time, but what would that teach my kids? Plus how can I say I did everything I could to achieve my dream if I didn’t do everything I could and just walked away.

What do you do when you’re not writing?
If it is relaxing time, I’m reading. If not, I’m taking care of my house, my Siberian Husky, you know that ugly word ‘adulting’ LMAO.

What are the most important attributes to remaining sane as a writer?
Focus on YOU and the story(s) YOU want to tell. If you focus on anything else you’ll lose it easily.

Did you have a moment when you realized you were meant to be a writer?
My family would tell me it was when I was younger before I could even write words LOL but as for being an author that was all my husband. He took my stack of notebooks that I’d been writing stories in for years and told me to do something with me or he would LOL

What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Be you. Stand strong. Most importantly, let nothing stop you from achieving YOUR goal.

After this book, what is next?
Another book. A unique read that I can’t wait to share with the world. Hoping book 2 for this series as well.
