Author Christine James

Hi all!
Please help me welcome Author Christine James to my blog today. Here is a little about her:

About the Author:
I'm a born and raised small town girl. I love fishing, camping, big and loud trucks, but don't let my boots fool ya, I can slip out of my boots and into a pair of heels in no time flat! I love books and movies and it seems that there is never enough time to read or watch them all. I bake and decorate cakes (in my free time) pffft what's that right?

My husband is my world. He has been my cheerleader as I strive to achieve my writing goals; he's helped pick me up and dust me off when I get rejected; he laughs with me, and more times than not he laughs AT me, and he lends a shoulder for me to cry on. He's my rock but more importantly he is my best friend. We have two beautiful sons, Dillyn (8) and Traben (2). They are my angels and by becoming an author I want to show them that their dreams can come true. I have something that not many people can brag about. I have my parents (both amazing God Fearing people married 31 years) and my AMAZING in-laws (married 44 years) these two couples are part of my inspiration. I am also fortunate to call my three younger brothers my best friends. I have a few close friends that have helped me come so far.

I value my relationships and treat them all like rare gems, because they are all special and unique in their own way. I love making people laugh, no matter what. Life is too short to be so serious all the time.

Writing has always been a dream of mine. It's been a comfort when I'm hurting and an outlet when I'm mad. It is my security blanket.

Here’s my interview with her:
What is your name? Do you use a pen name (if so, why?)?
~~Christine James and yes I use a pen name. I love the anonymity it creates.  It's almost like getting to be another person.

Tell me a bit about yourself:
I'm a small town girl and have been all my life.  I love loud trucks, mud, hunting, fishing, camping, and other country ways of life.  Ironically enough, I rarely listen to country music.  I wear cowboy boots, but I can slip out of them and into a pair of heels in no time flat.  I have two sons 8 and 2.  I stay at home full time.  I try to write as much as possible but at times it is hard to find the time.  When I'm not writing I bake and design cakes. I'm rather blunt but I try to always consider other people's feelings.

What type of genre do you write?
Currently I am in the paranormal realm, but my first love has always been thrillers/mystery.  I also do a lot of pirate romance and historical pieces.

What genre to you personally read?
I read paranormal, murder/thriller, and historical.

Tell me about your latest?
My latest book was the last in The Chosen Series.  It takes us on a roller coaster ride of emotions.  Joy, sorrow, loss, betrayal, and heartache.

What sparked your passion for books and the art of a good story?
I love being taken away to a different time and place, or even a different world.  I have always had an overactive imagination.  I've always had a knack for telling stories. The older I got the more I realized I wanted to be a person that could help other people escape, even if it was for 30 mins.  Life sucks sometimes, if I can help someone forget about it then that is what I want more than anything.

Is there a particular book that changed or affected your life in a big way?
I've read so many book its hard to pinpoint just one.  As cheesy as this sounds, I take something away from almost every book I read.

Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp?
Follow your heart and be yourself, not who the world thinks you should be.  If everyone was the same, the world would be a ridiculously boring place.

What challenges have you faced in your writing career?
Rejection and those people who take it upon themselves to tear me down with negative and out right hurtful comments.

What has been your best moment as a writer?
After I hit the button that said 'save and publish' and twenty minutes later I'd sold my very first  book.

Who is your author idol?
I don't have idols, but the author that inspires me the most is Karina Halle.  Her books are intense and gritty.  Her characters are realistic and make you feel with and for them.

Do you see yourself in any of your characters?
I see a piece myself in just about EVERY one of my characters.

Do you feel like your dream has come true or is there much more to do?
I feel like phase one of my dream has come true.  The second phase, so-to-speak, would be to see my books in actual print.

What does your workspace look like?
Oh Lordy, it's a disaster.  I have notebooks and pens and pencils scattered all over the place.  Coffee cups and red bull cans cover my desk. But, even in my clutter, I know where everything is.

Have you ever had a day when you just wanted to quit?
Actually it is funny you asked me that, because honestly today is one of those days. Every now and then someone feels entitled to tear my book to shreds.  I'm not naïve enough to believe everyone is going to like my books.  They may not be everyone's cup of tea, and that is okay, but when people seem to go out of their way to publicly eviscerate something I worked so hard on it is discouraging.  It's okay though, because I use the hateful comments to fuel my determination and correct areas that need improvements.
What do you do when you’re not writing?
I make and decorate cakes. I love Cake Boss, I would love to work with him just one day.

What are the most important attributes to remaining sane as a writer?
I don't believe there is such a thing as a sane writer.  I think all writers have to have a little touch of insanity.  I think its the sane people you have to watch out for.
Did you have a moment when you realized you were meant to be a writer?
Not really.  I simply enjoy writing.  It is an escape for me.

What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Breathe.  This is something I have to tell myself on a daily basis.  There are going to be people that piss us of with their negativity, even bring us to tears.  Just breathe and don't give up.  A good support system is something you would always need.

After this book, what is next?
I am currently working on another paranormal book called UnderCity.  You can see the new cover and read an excerpt on my blog.

Could he put attractions aside and focus on his job and what he needed to do?

It was just supposed to be a fun night at their small town carnival, but a bizarre encounter with a mysterious fortune teller changed Erin's life forever.

Then there was the stranger, the man who she literally ran into. A beautiful stranger that wouldn't leave her thoughts and who suddenly haunted her dreams.  Something about him pulled her to him, like an anchor sinking to the bottom of the ocean.  Little did she know her life was about to change when he revealed to her that she wasn't exactly human, and that she was destined to fight the most powerful evil on earth.

Erin's life collided with Angelo's, and now they are both in for a ride as they fight for the world, and fight their attraction for one another.
