Please help me welcome Author Kitty Bullard to my blog today. Here is her pic and my interview with her:
What
is your name? Do you use a pen name (if so, why?)?
My name is Kitty Bullard and to be honest I write with a partner, her name is
Amber Rendon, and we have yet to put out our first book so we’re not sure if we’ll
use a pen name yet or not but it’s always a possibility!
Tell
me a bit about yourself: Well, I am 40 years old, I
own and run GMTA Publishing aside from being a writer myself and I often like
to call myself the ‘unpublished publisher’ it’s actually a little joke I have
with a few people. My partner, Amber Rendon, and I have at least 3 books in the
works we have been slaving over for the past 3 years. The only thing holding us back from getting
them done is publishing but we wouldn’t change that for the world. We still
find time to write when possible and we’re sure to get our works out soon.
What
type of genre do you write? Amber and I aren’t set
on one genre. As I said we have 3 books in the works, one of which is modern
supernatural, one epic fantasy, and one fantasy erotica. There are many more in the ‘creative
imagination’ stall right now kicking and whinnying to get out but we have them
securely locked up for now. ;)
What
genre to you personally read? I like all genres, I
really don’t have any that I don’t read. But I would say that my most
favourites are fantasy, horror, and historical fiction.
Tell
me about your latest? Well the 3 latest are a
modern supernatural that’s not too much different than what you usually see out
there other than a lot of our supernatural’s are a bit different in the make.
Let’s just say they aren’t your run of the mill supes. The other is a fantasy
called “The Legend of Tremuir” this as well as the other work is destined to
become a series. Tremuir is about a land that has become the playground of the
gods and goddesses and not in a good way. They tend to enjoy wreaking havoc
with the lives of petty humans and it can get quite interesting. The last which
is the erotic fantasy is basically a story with quite a bit of naughtiness that
derives from a young girl that unwittingly created an imaginary friend when she
was younger that turns out to be quite a nasty bit of work in her future. We’ll
leave it at that. ;)
What
sparked your passion for books and the art of a good story? The passion for books actually began when I was first old enough to
read. I started reading and never stopped and I have only grown to love books
more with each passing year. I started GMTA as a review book club and it
eventually turned into a publishing company when I began to realize how many
unpublished authors were out there that were worthy of a good publishing home.
Since then we have grown by leaps and bounds and things have been going very
well so far. I long for the day when GMTA can be up there in the ranks with
Penguin, Harper Collins, St. Martins, Simon & Schuster and the rest! :0)
Is
there a particular book that changed or affected your life in a big way? Yes, actually, there is a series or was, I should say that started
in the 70’s called “Elfquest.” They began as comics, then magazines, and
finally novels that were written by Richard and Wendy Peni. This series sparked
my love for fantasy and I have been enthralled by it ever since. I still
collect everything that has to do with “Elfquest.”
Is
there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp? To be honest there aren’t really any messages other than the hope
that they read our work, enjoy it, want more, and pass it on. All we care about
is adding to the wealth of amazing literature out there and hope that it takes
off and does well and people are happy with it. If we can pull that off then
we’ll be very happy!
What
challenges have you faced in your writing career? Though
it’s always challenging to write a novel, I feel the true challenges are yet to
come. We have to get our work out there first and if we do that, half the
battle is won. After that we can only hope.
Who
is your author idol? My author idol… hmmm good
question I really have so many but I’d have to say that George R.R. Martin for
the present and J.R.R. Tolkien for the past.
Those two men really have fantasy down!
Do
you see yourself in any of your characters? Oh yes,
in every single one. My partner and I have often discussed how there are bits
and pieces of us both in all our characters.
What
does your workspace look like? Believe it or not I
am so well organized it’s scary. My partner always tells me that. So my
workspace is actually well kempt.
Have
you ever had a day when you just wanted to quit?
Every day of my life! I know that sounds harsh but there is always at least one
thing that happens during the course of the day when you just want to throw
your hands up and say, “I’M DONE!”
What
do you do when you’re not writing? Publish. Easy
answer!
What
are the most important attributes to remaining sane as a writer? Writing is the most important part of remaining sane! Really do you
know how many authors would be in mental wards with multi-personality disorder
if we didn’t write?
Did
you have a moment when you realized you were meant to be a writer? Oh yes, I think mine was about when I was 14 and my cousin and I
decided to write a fanfic… yes as old as I am we did that even then. I’m not
going to divulge who it was about for fear I’ll be laughed at…. but yeah. When
you are at a sleepover and you are about to finally get some sleep but you wake
up because you had a genius idea for the ‘book’ you were writing and can’t go
to sleep until you get it on paper… that’s when you know you must be a writer!
What
advice would you give to aspiring authors? Never
give up! Write until your fingers bleed and get those characters on paper. If
you give up, you’ll never know what might have been!
Your
website? The only site I have right now is our
publishing hub: http://www.gmtapublishing.com/
Your
blog? http://greatmindsthinkaloud.blogspot.com/
Other
websites? Other sites pending.
Where
can your book be found? Can’t be yet! But hopefully
soon! ;)
